It looks like not only can we expect a new season of ELEAGUE competition featuring Gears of War, but we now have an idea of when Gears 5 is coming!

It hasn’t been long since The Coalition came out with their first volley in Gears of War 4, giving a jolt of life back to the series, and though the franchise has been quiet for a bit, Microsoft was happy to announce that won’t be the case for long. Alongside various announcements on Inside Xbox today, which detailed Microsoft’s intentions leading up to E3 2019, we also got a look at a new ELEAGUE series which will feature the apparently fast coming Gears  5. Get ready for the Gears ELEAGUE Summer Series coming this summer in 2019.

The announcement was made during the Inside Xbox episode on April 16, 2019 on the Xbox YouTube channel. Season 2, Episode 3 heavily showcased a number of coming Microsoft projects leading up to E3, including a new, all-digital edition of Xbox One which will run entirely digital software and have access to all Xbox One online features. The new Gears ELEAGUE announcement came in the form of a short teaser and date in the middle of the episode. You can see the teaser in its entirety below.

Set to launch on June 14, 2019 on the TBS television channel, the Gears ELEAGUE Summer Series announcement makes one thing glaringly clear. Gears 5 will likely launch in some playable form before June 14. This is not the first time we’ve heard of Gears of War 5, with the game having been announced during Xbox’s segment of E3 in 2018 in a batch of three new coming Gears of War games. However, news has been quiet through the year since that announcement. With the announcement of the Summer Series, we now have a definitive idea of when we can expect to play the game. As of the moment, Gears 5 is set to launch on Xbox One and Microsoft PCs only as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program.

It will be awesome to see not only a new Gears game, but new competition to go with it. Stay tuned for more details including a reveal of the game and a confirmed release date. Until then, it appears we can at least look forward to definitive Gears of War action as we near June 14.
