Shao Kahn has been a marquee reason to pre-order Mortal Kombat 11, and now we have our first look at his MK11 gameplay and a fatality.

Pretty much every little bit of Mortal Kombat 11 content has come with a little addendum reminding us that Shao Kahn will be playable for free with a pre-order. Tempting enough, but NetherRealm Studios sweetened up the offer anyways. We just got our first look at gameplay, fatal blows, and fatalities for the Outworld Emperor and he’s looking just as merciless as ever.

The MK11 social channels released a trailer specifically focused on Shao Kahn via Twitter and YouTube on April 17, 2019. This follows shortly after some of Shao Kahn’s details and apparently final character Frost were leaked on Reddit earlier in the week. Nonetheless, as little as we learned from that leak about Shao, this trailer gives us the Emperor in all of his brutal glory as we get to see him go hard to the paint on Raiden, Kotal Kahn, and Liu Kang. Check out the trailer in its entirety below.

It would appear that most of the iconic elements of Shao Kahn have returned in Mortal Kombat 11. The hammer is the most prominent, but it is now a regular part of Shao Kahn’s regular kit, used in normal, specials, command grabs, and more. We also get the shoulder charge back and, hilariously enough, the taunts from the good old days as well (“You SUCK!” made us genuinely laugh to see again in 2019).

The more things change, the more Shao Kahn's opinions of opponents stay the same.

Maybe the most interesting addition to Kahn is the ability to disperse his hammer and summon a javelin for various attacks, which hasn’t seen as much play since Mortal Kombat 2. This includes projectile moves, combos, and some throws. It looks like it gives Kahn a little variety in his distance game, which has only had an energy ball traditionally. At the end of the day, Kahn is looking angry and mean as ever and we’re here for it.

Are you getting Mortal Kombat 11 for early for Shao Kahn? Make sure to pre-order before the game comes out on April 23, 2019, or get ready to play any of the other confirmed chadracters on the MK11 roster.
