Scuttle Crab Changes Proposed for League of Legends Jungle

Fans took notice that the river Scuttle Crabs were spawning a little later than normal on the test-servers, and balance team member RiotJatt stepped up on Reddit to explain his tests.

The Jungle is the most adapted and transformed role and area in all of League of Legends history, and Riot Games is continuing to tweak some things in the river. Detailed in a Reddit post by ex-caster now balance team member Joshua “Jatt” Leesman, some work on the scuttle crabs are coming.

The focus of the change is the spawn time of the Scuttle Craps in the river. As it stands, the role of the jungler has a pretty high dependence on help from their laners in order to get an early Scuttle Crab for the xp, for the gold, and for the vision. It often can boil down to low-level fights, or completely ignoring of the objective for fear of losing out on something else.

In his post, Jatt talks about reducing this frustration. The changes outlined in his test set the Scuttle Crabs spawning at 3:15, instead of 2:00 like they do now.

A lot of people in the comments on both Jatt’s Reddit post, and on social media are blowing it out of the water a little bit saying that it will “ruin jungling” or “nerfing the junglers” but in all honesty, it’s just changing where you need to be.

Instead of needing to push for scuttle control at 2-minutes junglers can invade (or heaven forbid they early-game lane gank) and return to the river for a decent potential fight at around level 3 rather than earlier in the match.

Jatt's Track

Jatt detailed a bunch of notes on his Reddit comment regarding the tests he is currently performing on the rebalance of the river Scuttles.

The changes won’t hit the rift until Jatt and the rest of the balance team really hit the right balance timing for the Scuttle Crabs, so there’s no real reason to panic just yet. At the end of the day, there’s no reason to panic at all. Plenty of folks are having a conversation regarding the size of the impact this change will have, and it’s ultimately minimal.

What we truly want, is for Riot to finally release an internally developed radio-controlled Scuttle Crab like you can see here in Hanabi’s YouTube video.

What do you think about the proposed changes to the Scuttle Crab spawn-time changes? Also, would you buy one of these hype Scuttle Crab remote-controlled cars?
