“Why is there a sneakerhead post on my gaming site?” you may ask. Well, do you like exclusive video game skins? What about fighting games? Then do we have the story for you: Street Fighter V has announced a collaboration with Japanese shoe legends, Onitsuka Tiger.
Inspired by the Street Fighter character, Chun-Li, the shoes will come in two different color palettes. The first is a brilliant yellow with blue accent stripes. The second is similar but utilizes a white base for those looking for less saturated footwear. Both feature the Street Fighter logo on the heel and have a stunning and detailed dragon graphic appearing across it.
Both colorways appear on Onitsuka Tiger’s Mexico 66 SD silhouette, a classic sneaker with an amazing history. In 1966, this sneaker was adapted from the “Limber Up” training shoe and was the first to sport the iconic ASICS crossed stripes.
For those wondering about the aforementioned in-game goodies, the lucky few that grab these shoes will also receive a code to download an exclusive skin for Chun-Li in Street Fighter V. So you’ll be able to wear your Tigers while Chun-Li performs a Hyakuretsukyaku in the same shoes against your opponent.
Expected to be released July 27th, 2019, the shoes will be limited to only 5,000 pairs, meaning that if you want them, you’ll have to set a calendar reminder and bookmark the Onitsuka Tiger Store page.

We’re not sure which fan base is more rabid, video gamers or sneakerheads, but this deal seems like an amazing initiative. While Korean custom-shoe designer “Upboy” created a selection of heroic Nike Air Force 1s for the Overwatch Fan Festival last year, we never saw anything official come from Blizzard and Nike. Personally, we’d love to see more brands take the initiative, offering gamers the ability to flaunt their fandom with something a little more legit than a graphic tee.
