Popular battle royale Twitch streamer shroud recently explained why he doesn't believe a Borderlands battle royale game would work very well.

While Michael "shroud" Grzesiek began his rise to fame during his career as a professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) player for the likes of Cloud9, shroud has skyrocketed to becoming one of the most popular personalities in the world of video games on Twitch by streaming a variety of battle royale games. From Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout, Apex Legends, and other games, there hasn't been a battle royale game that shroud has produced highlights in on his Twitch stream. This expertise in the last man or team surviving genre has led to many individuals often looking to shroud for his viewpoints on the genre. This was the case during a recent Twitch stream when one viewer asked shroud his thoughts on the possibility of a Borderlands battle royale game.

During a Twitch stream where shroud was playing Apex Legends, one viewer asked the former professional CS:GO player and current battle royale extraordinaire if he believed a battle royale title in the model of the Borderlands franchise would work well. This led to shroud responding with a less than optimistic view of the success a Borderlands battle royale game would see if it was developed and how Apex Legends is likely the closest thing players will ever see when it comes to a battle royale title from the popular looter-shooter franchise.

"What does that even mean? What? No. Borderlands BR would not work. That doesn't make any sense. What would that even be? This (Apex Legends) is probably the closest we got to a Borderlands BR actually if you think about it," said shroud. "This is actually really close to a Borderlands BR, actually, when you think about it now. It's got the classes. It's got the abilities. It's got the ultimates. It's got like these fancy, colorful weapons and like energy type thing. It's almost there."

It seems that Gearbox Software has had the same thoughts as shroud when it comes to a Borderlands battle royale game, as the developer announced during the reveal of the next entry in the franchise that they would not be making a BR game. However, there is always a possibility that entry 3 in the franchise includes a BR game mode with it only being an additional aspect and not the centralized focus of the product.
