League of Legends Patch 9.9 Notes Target Aatrox & Tahm Kench

Amid a bevy of new changes halfway through League of Legends Season 9, Tahm Kench and Aatrox are catching the biggest nerf hammers in Patch 9.9.

As we approach the mid-season of League of Legends’ latest year and the start of the MSI 2019, another patch full of balancing changes have come down the pipeline to bring overpowered characters in line and boost underperformers. Patch 9.9 saw a lot of little tweaks for the likes Hecarim, Darius, and more, but it was Aatrox and Tahm Kench who caught the brunt of attention this time out. We have the full list of changes below.

The changes for Patch 9.9 were announced by on the League of Legends Twitter and went live as well on May 1, 2019. The angle behind the focus on Aatrox and Tahm were that both characters seemed to perform abnormally well in a particular skill level of the game, but did little elsewhere.

Aatrox’s changes were based around the fact that everything he has was based around a single combo dive with complete reliance put on his revive mechanic to get him out of danger. By making the revive attached to his ultimate less powerful and spreading out a few buffs to the rest of his kit, Riot seems to want to make Aatrox less of a one-shot diver and more of an extended engagement bruiser.

Tahm Kench’s changes are heavily focused on his Devour ability, which did massive percentage damage to enemies. As one of the worst kept secret weapons of his kit, Tahm Kench could make extremely short work of single-targets while the ally devour allowed him to far too easily escape with teammates, making him a high priority pick for pro players. As such, the damage and utility of devour were lessoned to balance out Tahm with some of the power being put back into his base stats.

The rest of the patch notes focus on smaller tasks like giving Blitz something beyond his hook and launch and making Soraka less of an offensive mage. Here are all of the changes coming to champions as outlined on the League of Legends website.


Aatrox

Base Stats

Passive - Deathbringer Stance

  • Mutilation (Removed): Aatrox no longer reduces healing and shielding on champions
  • I Need Healing (New): Heals Aatrox for bonus physical damage dealt
  • Bonus Damage: 8-16% (lvl 1-18) of the target's maximum health ⇒ 5-10% (lvl 1-18) of the target's maximum health
  • Cooldown: 25 seconds ⇒ 15 seconds
  • Cooldown Refund: 2 seconds per ability cast and per champion hit with the edge of the Darkin Blade ⇒ 2 seconds per attack or ability hit on enemy champions and large monsters and per champion hit with the edge of the Darkin Blade

R - World Ender

  • Freevive (Removed): Taking lethal damage during World Ender no longer revives Aatrox over 3.25 seconds, unless...
  • Got the Reset: Takedowns extend World Ender by 5 seconds, refresh its movement speed, and allow Aatrox to revive upon taking lethal damage while World Ender is active
  • Amnesia (Removed): Reviving no longer clears temporary buffs on Aatrox (e.g. Conqueror stacks)
  • Movement Speed: 120/180/240 flat movement speed for 1 second on cast and while out of combat during World Ender ⇒ 60/80/100% decaying over World Ender's duration
  • Friendly Fear (Removed) Aatrox no longer fears nearby allied minions on cast

  • VFX Updated to show the actual width and distance of the hook that is more consistent with the hitbox and cleaned up with a small cast effect

  • VFX: More static shock with an uppercut hit effect

R - Static Field

  • Removed Passive: Lightning no longer randomly arcs off Blitzcrank for 100/200/300 (+0.2 ability power)
  • New Passive: While his ultimate is off cooldown, Blitzcrank marks targets hit by his basic attacks. Enemies marked take 50/100/150 (+0.3 ability power) after a 1 second delay.
  • VFX Updated to show the actual range and clean up the electricity on Blitzcrank's body.

Darius
