The 2019 Overwatch League Grand Finals will be held in Philadelphia, according to recent reports. The 20,000-seat Wells Fargo Center is rumored to be the venue of choice. No word on if DJ Khaled will show up with more fancy footwork.

Home of Rocky, the Liberty Bell, and sandwiches with meat and cheese on them, Philadelphia may soon be able to claim that it was also home of the second Overwatch League Grand Finals.

According to a report from ESPN, the Overwatch League Grand Finals will be hosted in the City of Brotherly Love on September 29th, 2019. ESPN asserts that several sources informed them that the event would take place in the nearly 20,000 seat Wells Fargo Center.

There are many factors that would lend to the credibility of the report. First off, the Philadelphia Fusion are owned by industry leader Comcast Spectator, which also currently operates the Wells Fargo Center. This could dramatically cut costs for the League as they would want to see such an event brought to their city and venue.

Secondly is that the Philadelphia Fusion were the first of the Overwatch League teams to announce a home venue. The $50 million dollar arena will be built just across the street from the Wells Fargo Center and promises to be able to seat up to 3,500 attendees. As the first announced home-venue, the Fusion Arena sets the tone for Overwatch League’s vision. With the success of Homestand Weekends like the one recently held in Dallas (which sold out the 4,500-seat Allen Event Center), stadiums such as this will be essential as Overwatch looks to continue delivering more and more away games.

Last year, the Grand Finals were held in the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn which sold out in just under two weeks. If the report of a Wells Fargo Center 2019 Grand Finals is true, the choice of a similarly-sized venue asserts that Blizzard has plenty of faith in the Overwatch League.

With no official confirmation from the Overwatch League nor Activision Blizzard, this report isn’t a sure thing, but it definitely makes sense. We’re keeping our ear to the ground, and will update this article should any new information arise in the future.
