Arc System Works and CyGames turned heads back in December 2018 when they announced a collaborative effort on a new fighting game set in the Granblue universe. Granblue Fantasy Versus brings the extensive universe of characters together with the Arc System Works pedigree of fighting games found in the likes of BlazBlue and Guilty Gear. Now it would appear we’re about to get our first taste of the action in an upcoming Closed Beta. Sign ups are open and the Beta will launch beside an exhibition series video featuring CyGames Beast players and FGC pros Daigo “The Beast” Umehara and Keita “Fuudo” Ai.
The Closed Beta and sign-ups were announced on May 7, 2019 via Arc System Works and Granblue Fantasy social channels. The Closed Beta will be mostly a test of online systems on PlayStation 4, meaning most of the offline features will be disabled during the test. It’s set to take place starting on the weekend of Friday, May 31. The Beta will launch alongside the aforementioned exhibition video featuring Daigo and Fuudo. As CyGames Beast players, Daigo and Fuudo likely have had more than a little time with the game. The match should be an extremely interesting display of Granblue Fantasy Versus in action.
From now until May 24 at 11PM PST, would-be players can fill out an application form to be a part of the Granblue Fantasy Versus Closed Beta on PlayStation 4 systems. On May 28, applicants will be selected and codes will be sent out. The Beta test will begin on May 31 at 2AM PST and be confined to the following times (All times PST):
- May 31: 2AM - 7AM
- May 31: 6PM - 11PM
- Jun 1: 9AM - 2PM
As the first chance to get a feel for Granblue Fantasy Versus beyond the couple short trailers, not to mention the match between Daigo and Fuudo, it looks like we can look forward to seeing how far Arc System Works and CyGames’ collaboration has come since last December.
