DreamHack Showdown Valencia Features CSGO $100,000 All-Women Tournament

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has always had a strong crop of female players and teams, and at DreamHack Showndown, they'll be able to show it for a shot at a $100,000 prize pool.

DreamHack events have continued to be some of the most widespread and attended LAN events in the world, offering a wide variety of activities and tournaments, including battle royale, MOBA, and fighting game competitions. It also strives to be a place where everyone is welcome and anyone who strives to be the best can be celebrated. To that end, the upcoming DreamHack Valencia will feature an All-Women tournament for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) with DreamHack Showdown.

DreamHack Showdown was announced on May 21, 2019 via press release and the DreamHack website. During the events of DreamHack Valencia in Spain, July 5 to July 7, 8 teams from around the world will compete in DreamHack Showdown for their part of a $100,000 prize pool. Qualifiers will take place in Europe, North American, and Asia with two winning teams from each qualifier gaining invitation to the Showdown (six teams altogether). The final two teams will be special invites from the CSGO Women’s circuit.

Whether they qualify or are invited, squads like Lazarus Esports' CSGO team are likely to have an opportunity to be in the 8 teams at DreamHack Showdown.

Each of the qualifiers is open events. Esports-Management will operate the North American and European qualifiers, both set to take place on June 8 and June 9. Teams have until June 8 at 4AM PST to register. Registration for the EU Open Qualifiers and NA Open Qualifiers is open right now. Meanwhile, Zowie will handle the Asian Qualifiers with the ZOWIE DIVINA Women’s Asian CSGO Championship in Shanghai serving as the final qualifier for DreamHack Showdown. The Zowie online qualifiers will take place on June 1 and June 2 with the final qualifying event taking place June 20 to June 23.

CSGO has always had one of the fiercest circuits when it comes to women players in professional gaming. DreamHack CEO AB Co-CEO Marcus Lindmark wants to help put a spotlight on that talent.

“Inclusivity at our events is a huge part of DreamHack — we aim to be the esports and gaming festival where all groups feel welcome,” says Lindmark. “DreamHack Showdown is a step to help create inspirational moments for aspiring female esports competitors worldwide.”

With $100,000 on the line for the event, the eight teams selected for DreamHack Showdown are bound to put on more than a few moments indeed. We’ll look forward to seeing the competition come July.
