With the new reveal trailer and embargo lifted on E3 judges week impressions, there's a lot to love about where Infinity Ward is taking this reboot of Modern Warfare.

Today, Activision and Infinity Ward revealed this year’s Call of Duty game, and it’s going back into an era of the franchise that is beloved by fans. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will return to the world on October 25th, 2019.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a powerful experience reimagined from the ground-up,” reads Activision’s press release.

Back in 2007, the original Modern Warfare (then Call of Duty 4) reinvented the way fans and pvp players interacted with first-person-shooters of the modern age. It would reach pinnacle shift in Modern Warfare 2, but none of that would have happened if the first did not become wildly popular.

Now, twelve years later, Call of Duty looks to sew closed the open flood of exponentially futuristic and fictional warfare titles, jumping back into the Modern Warfare timeline of their franchise.

Returning to the forefront of the franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) reveals Captain Price is back. There is no word on whether or not MacTavish, Ghost, Gaz, or any of the other notable and fan-favorite Modern Warfare characters will make a return. As for the game, what is shown in the reveal trailer, and according to those from judges week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks to reimagine the slow-burn and stealth-focused gameplay of previous titles.

“This is an all-new Modern Warfare reimagined in every way,” said Dave Stohl, co-Studio Head, Infinity Ward. “We are creating an emotionally charged experience that’s inspired by the headlines in the world today, where the rules are grey and battle lines are blurred. Players will join a varied cast of international special forces and freedom fighters in gripping and heart-pounding missions through iconic European cities and volatile expanses of the Middle East. It’s intense, it’s exciting, and we can’t wait for our fans to play this October.”

During E3’s judges week, attending outlets were given a fairly extensive look at the large-sale campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and things look to be heading back to the somber and “very real” tones of the original.

“What I’ve seen makes me uncomfortable … it’s clearly trying to tell a story. Clearly trying to put what’s actually happening in the world into the controller,” said KindaFunny’s Greg Miller on his experience with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign preview during E3 judges week. Miller explained some of the details he was allowed to divulge on the KindaFunnyGames show this morning, describing it like “what we see in those WikiLeaks videos” repeating how heavy it all felt.

Infinity Ward seems to be trying to right some wrongs made by development teams over time as the franchise strayed a bit away from what players wanted in the long-run.

“Every design decision has been made with our players in mind,” said Patrick Kelly, Creative Director and co-Studio Head, Infinity Ward. “With the launch of Modern Warfare, we’re taking steps to unite the community. First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support. Second, we’re eliminating the traditional season pass, so that we can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players. This is just the beginning – there’s much more to come.”

Having a gigantic multiplayer and single-player game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) launch as a cross-platform experience may just finally shift the entire industry, making such a feature standard across multiplayer experiences the world over.

More information regarding the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot will come as we get closer to launch this October 25th. Expect to see some, if not a lot of information hitting the waves come E3 in a week.
