A brand new contest highlighting the modding community for ARK: Survival Evolved is kicking off, and Studio Wildcard isn't pulling any punches with the prizes.

Studio Wildcard, developers of the popular sandbox game ARK: Survival Evolved, has announced a brand new mod contest tailored toward the game’s modding community with a pretty hefty cash prize waiting for the winners.

The new contest encourages modders to enter their best work into a four week contest, from May 30th to June 29th, after which ARK players will vote on their favorites. The fourth ever ARK Modding contest is offering a $35,000 prize pool split between two separate categories: Mods, which are specific changes to the game as a whole; or Maps, full ARK maps built from scratch.

Directions on how to enter, straight from the press release, are as follows:

“Interested modders should first jump into the Epic Store launcher to download the ARK development kit, then join the ARK community, participate in the Unreal Engine ARK Modding forum, and find content in the Unreal Engine Marketplace. Once ready modders can then share their creations with the ARK player community using Steam Workshop.

We wonder what cool mods will help hunt this giant...

The release also notes that there are 10 free mod packs available to download that could help in the contest, but today is the last day to download them.

This is a really cool idea, one that we’re shocked more developers don’t follow Studio Wildcard’s lead on. Encouraging the modding community to come up with bigger and better things not only increases the lifespan of the game, but it also engages a part of the community that some players might not even know about. We’re curious to see what sort of new mods come from this contest, and we look forward to checking them out.
