How to Interrupt Behemoths in Dauntless

Much like a stagger, an interrupt can be the difference between success or failure on a hunt. Here's how to interrupt Behemoths in Dauntless.

While an interrupt is slightly different from a stagger, both mechanics work towards one common goal - slaying Behemoths. A stagger is damage done over time that results in a Behemoth getting knocked down. An interrupt is done during a Behemoth's specific animation that knocks it off guard, giving you and your party an opportunity to wail on the defenseless creature.  In boxing terms, a stagger is a 12th round knockdown caused by not just impact, but fatigue - but an interrupt is a second-round counterpunch knockdown. Here's how to interrupt certain Behemoths in Dauntless, but be advised that not all Behemoths can be interrupted. In those cases, you'll have to rely on your Slaying skills to come out on top.

How to Interrupt Behemoths in Dauntless

Generally speaking, all Behemoths who can be interrupted have a universal tell. It's this little animation that might not be easily recognizable at first - but it'll soon become your best friend.

These radiating lines will generally accompany a charging animation for an attack you'd normally not want to be anywhere near. But in order to end fights quickly, you'll need to stand strong in the face of terror and hit the Behemoth square in its jaw. Here are the Interrupt opportunities availble to Slayers (so far):

  • Shrike/Moonreaver Shrike Interrupt: During the long-distance flying charge, hit with a ranged attack of chain blades/hammer/repeaters. Works normally or while enraged.
  • Skraev/Winterhorn Skraev: During the long-distance flying charge, hit with ranged attack of chain blades/hammer/repeaters.
  • Skarn: As he rears up on his hind legs, jump into the air and bash with a hammer to knock him backwards. A hammer boost works for launching too.
  • Shrowd: Hit him during the blinded phase with a ranged attack of chain blades/hammer/repeaters.
  • Rezakiri: Swooping attack, use ranged weapons to hit before the animation.
  • Stormclaw: Hit during the charge-up animation using melee or ranged weapons.
  • Embermane: Hit during the charge-up animation with melee or ranged weapons.
  • Gnasher/Ragetail Gnasher: Hit right before the lunging body tackle. Sometimes, the Gnashers will hop back and forth which can either precede the lunge or a flip attack. The interrupt window is brief, so either predict the attack is coming or use the speed of the Chain Blades. Worst comes to worst, you wait for the flip attack and wail on him them.

Now that you can interrupt Behemoths, it's time to learn how to stagger them, too. Once you've mastered both abilities, head into the wild and get your hands on these Exotic weapon blueprints to really slay some Behemoths!
