15 Esports Teams Confirm Entrance To Inaugural H1Z1 Pro League In Vegas

Daybreak Studios is making its next big moves in making H1Z1 a proper esport. Today they announced partnership with Caesar's Entertainment Studios in Las Vegas where the season will go down and unveiled the 15 teams that will compete.

Since the battle royale genre of gaming has come to prominence, esports organizations and developers have been considering ways to approach turning the open-world style of gaming competition into a proper esports arena. As of today, Daybreak Studios takes a big step in that direction with the H1Z1 Pro League. The studio formally announced partnerships with Caesars Entertainment Studios in Las Vegas to host the inaugural season and Facebook run livestream coverage of the event. In addition, 15 established esports organizations have been unveiled and confirmed to be all-in on the event and it’s a who’s who of talented crews. But that’s not all. Daybreak has upped the ante even further by announcing that H1Z1 will be going free-to-play.

The H1Z1 Pro League will be heading to Caesars Entertainment Studio to begin the festivities of its first season on April 21, 2018. The season will run the course of 10 weeks and fans will be able to attend in person or watch online. Joining into the action are teams from all over the world who have invested into the event. North American and European favorites will be among the roster, but the entire list can be seen below.

With such an investment of high caliber teams in such a high-profile place as the 50,000 square foot Caesars Entertainment Studio, the H1PL looks like it’s set for success, but even more interesting is the support of Facebook, who’s interest in supporting and livestreaming gaming and esports in the past has helped to boost the likes of esports arenas like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to their current-day professional level of publicity. With these partners and teams in tow, the H1PL appears to be well-covered from both venue and broadcasting standpoints.

One thing is for sure: Between the 15 teams involved, the H1PL won't be lacking for bodies gunning to prove their worth in the league.

Co-chairman of Twin Galaxies Jace Hall expressed his enthusiasm for these partnerships, as well as a sentiment that it’s time to build a battle royale arena while the genre’s popularity is in a fever pitch.

“The battle royale format has quickly become the most popular and entertaining multiplayer video game genre,” claims Hall. “And we’re confident that the H1PL will drive fan engagement and excitement to even higher levels through the use of groundbreaking production techniques along with access to Facebook’s global gaming community.”

Meanwhile, Caesars Entertainment Executive Vice President of Gaming and Interactive Entertainment Christian Stuart shared his own enthusiasm at not only helping deliver the H1PL in its best form, but in helping bring the first dedicated esports league to a home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Caesars Entertainment strives to partner with some of the most important esports events in the world, and we couldn’t be more proud to host H1PL,” said Stuart. “The combination of an intimate venue, like Caesars Entertainment Studios, and a jaw-dropping production set will deliver a unique experience for anyone who wants to see what competitive gaming is all about. This partnership further solidifies our commitment to esports and builds on our strategy to be at the cutting edge in all forms of interactive entertainment.”

As mentioned before, this all comes alongside the news that H1Z1 will become free-to-play as well. Anyone who wants to jump into the action will now have the opportunity without spending a dime. That means engaging in the latest features that came out alongside the full release of the game, such as the new Auto Royale mode featuring full automobile survival combat. All of these opportunities are not lost on Daybreak, who seem as ready as everybody to grab the bull by the horns and make the first battle royale esports league one that will have staying power.

If adding a vehicular battle mode full of chaos and carnage to H1Z1 wasn't enough to entice players in, making the whole thing the low price of nothing just might.

“The H1Z1 Pro League will bring together the best players in the world to compete in the adrenaline-filled spectacle that is H1Z1, and we can think of no other city that matches the energy and excitement of battle royale than Las Vegas,” said Mark Tuttle, Director of Esports at Daybreak Games. “With our announcement today that H1Z1 is now free to play, the stage is set for a robust and active community ready to tune into the H1PL every week.”

At the very least, this grand experiment in the battle royale esports design will likely be one of the most interesting events to see this year. If the roots can take hold with the likes of H1Z1, then no doubt developers all around the genre are watching with enthusiasm to see what comes of it for their own models. The H1Z1 Pro League will have a lot to prove on April 21, but with everything going for it, venue selected, broadcast secured, and teams investing, all that remains to be seen is the actual execution.
