Cross Save is coming to Destiny 2, which will allow players to bring their Guardian to any platform the game can be played on.

Bungie has confirmed Destiny 2 will be getting cross-save, breaking down the walls between various platforms and allowing players the freedom to play their Guardians on whatever platform they feel like playing. It’s a huge step as Bungie takes the reigns of the franchise and prepares to launch its stand-alone expansion, Shadowkeep.

The cross-save feature was announced during the Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Stream on the Bungie Twitch channel. In the stream announcing Destiny 2’s massive new expansion, Bungie staff went into a little bit more detail on what cross-save would entail. Cross-save will be available on every platform for Destiny 2, including planned future releases like Stadia. Players will be able to pick-up their Guardians and their attached arsenal and progression on any system they want to play.

It will be curious to learn how previously exclusive items like the PlayStation 4 weapons will work with cross-save. In the past, items on PS4 have stayed on PS4, to the extent of being deactivated or nerfed when accidentally picked up on Xbox One. One would hope that with cross-save, players won’t be barred from anything they enjoy using on one platform as they venture over to another platform.

Nonetheless, cross-save is a pretty incredible upgrade to Destiny 2’s landscape. It will make it far easier for players who weren’t able to play with eachother before to join in on the various platforms available. With upcoming Google Stadia and Steam versions for Destiny 2 announced, and free-to-play coming as well with Destiny 2: New Light, it’s going to be easier than ever to get into the game and go where your friends are with your Guardian’s progress. Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is coming on September 17 to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
