The Esports Organizations With the Most Green in Their Pocket

From humble beginnings to becoming a billion dollar industry, the esports industry has many organizations who are doing very well in the prize money department.

Massive Growth is what has defined the esports industry so far through its life. From playing in small tournaments for a couple of thousand dollars to now competing in events broadcasted around the world for millions of dollars, organizations have become multil-million dollar operations. Putting together talented teams in multiple games to compete in as many events as possible, some of the biggest names in the industry have amassed over ten million dollars in total prize money won. We take a look at the top five esports organizations with the most prize money earned in their lifetime.

5. Wings Gaming

Wings Gaming has earned a total of $9,718,112.87 from 22 tournaments. The vast majority of their prize earnings is from competing in professional DOTA 2, as that is where they collected $9,711,888 of their earnings. Their other contributing esports title was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which the organization has won $6,224.87. The massive prize pools that major DOTA 2 events offer has allowed a strong team like Wings Gaming to enter in the top five of most prize money ever earned by the way playing in 19 tournaments for a single game.

4. LGD Gaming

LGD Gaming is the fourth highest earning organization in esports with a total of $10,301,647.31 from 119 tournaments. With their prize earnings spanning across five different esports, LGD Gaming has seen success on multiple fronts, but their main money maker has been DOTA 2. The organization has won $9,765,328.97 from the Valve MOBA. Their second highest earning game has been League of Legends with $366,845.65 earned, while suprisingly Player Unknowns Battlegrounds rounds out LGD Gaming's top three with its under developed esports scene with $62,369 won. 

3. Newbee

Another organization that has seen major success in professional DOTA 2 makes its way on the list in the way of Newbee. The organization has earned $12,349,368.12 from 116 tournaments with $12,099,933.26 coming from their DOTA 2 victories. Newbee's second highest earning game is DOTA 2's direct competitor in League of Legends, as Newbee has won a total of $110,540.60 in Riot Games' MOBA. Blizzard's competitive card game Hearthstone rounds out Newbee's top three with the organization taking home $109,076.13. Competing in three other Blizzard developed esports, Newbee has not reached over $25,000 in prize money earned from either Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm or StarCraft II.

2. Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses enters the top five with a total of $16,930,932.79 earned from 689 tournaments. The organization has earned this prize money through competing and achieveing success in 48 different games with DOTA 2 being their top earner with $14,916,527.05. Starcraft II is Evil Geniuses' second highest earning game with $796,668.37, while Halo 2 Anniversary comes in at third with $167,500. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has given Evil Geniuses $158,086.74 for their fourth highest earning game with Halo 5: Guardians rounding out the top five with $132,025.  Evil Geniuses has been able to capture some form of prize money in about every single esports title you can think of over the years. 

1. Team Liquid

Coming in at number one for the organizations with the most prize money won is Team Liquid. Seeing massive success in multiple titles, Team Liquid has been able to secure over a million dollars in prize earnings for three of the most popular esports titles in the world. Their total prize earnings come in at $18,805,491.25 from 1,148 tournaments. DOTA 2 and the organization's victory at The International 2017 take the top spot, as they have won $14,598,352.11 from the lucrative MOBA. StarCraft II has seen Team Liquid take home $1,289,865.76, while the organization has collected $1,114,606.04 from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. 23 games have seen Team Liquid teams competing in them, as they have worked their way to the top of having the most prize money earned in the esports industry.

The esports industry and the incredible prize pools that it offers are only continuing to get larger every year. With more major corporations getting involved and inserting their capital into the industry, there is no signs of slowing down for the amount of prize money that successful teams will be able to collect for their organizations.
