Fnatic Crush G2 Esports in LEC Match of the Week

It could easily be called the most entertaining battle of two European juggernauts ever played on the mainstage in Berlin as both G2 and Fnatic play as undefeated squads.

It’s not something we normally say, but if you’re ever going to watch a single League of Legends VOD, please make it this one. Week 3 of the League of Legends European Championship wrapped up Day 1 with a battle between the undefeated G2 Esports and the also undefeated Fnatic.

With one of these two teams being the first European team to win the Mid-Season Invitational, and the other being a stellar team who underperformed in the Spring, it was bound to be the highlight of the week for any fan or pro.

Surprisingly, from the word go Fnatic had their thumbs in the eyes of G2 Esports and they never let up on the pressure. From early game 1v1 kills in the top and mid-lanes, to some extremely aggressive roaming, G2 Esports was trying to regain composure the whole way through.

“They’re crazy,” said Fnatic’s Rekkles in regards to their draft against G2 Esports. “We knew that we needed to play their game. If you don’t meet G2 at least half-way there, then you can’t win.”

The Pyke and Karma bot-lane for Fnatic brought a whole lot of pain and speed to the fights and the roaming against G2 Esports, and there just weren’t many windows for the MSI Champs to get their foot in the door.

There was, however, one of the stupidest and hard-to-believe plays we’ve ever seen by G2’s Caps on Akali, where he highlighted Fnatic’s Nemesis with his lock-on and initiated the dive before Nemesis went an entire lane over with his Twisted Fate ultimate. Unfortunately for Nemesis, this for some reason didn’t cancel the flight of Caps, and his Akali went flying half-way across the map to assassinate the mid-laner.

It would, however, be the increasingly stellar play of Fnatic’s Hyllisang on Pyke, and their jungler Broxxah who is trying to prove himself, that would lift Fnatic over G2 Esports.

At the end of the day, it was a one-sided affair, but it is also some of the most entertaining and mechanically mind-blowing League of Legends we’ve ever witnessed. If you still doubt the prowess of the EU region, or think that North America has a chance during Rift Rivals 2019, we dare you to watch this match in its entirety.
