A Preview of the Call of Duty World League Atlanta Open - Group D

The CWL Atlanta Open is set to kick off this Friday and will consist of four groups of four teams from the Pro League. Who's set to butt heads in the opening volley? This time, we look at the competition in Group D

The Call of Duty World League (CWL) Atlanta Open has begun this day, March 9th and runs until the 11th. 176 teams will be making their way to the Georgia World Congress Center to compete for the largest share of the $200,000 grand prize. 160 of these teams will have to make their way through the treacherous open bracket to make it to the group stage, which is where 16 teams from the CWL Pro League await. Group D for CWL Atlanta consists of Team EnVyUs, Red Reserve, UNILAD and Mindfreak. Here is a short breakdown of teams heading into the third major LAN event of the Call of Duty: WWII season

Team EnVyUs

Team EnVyUs has not seen much success at major LAN events this season, as they placed 7th to 8th at CWL Dallas and 9th to 12th at CWL New Orleans. However, the lineup of Austin "SlasheR" Liddicoat, Cuyler "Huke" Garland, Donovan "Temp" Laroda and Nicholas "Classic" DiCostanzo have seen much improvement in the Pro League, as they finished in 2nd place in Division B with a 6-1 record. Looking to ride the momentum they have built through their Pro League performance, Team EnVyUs will be out to prove that their decision to break up their championship caliber roster of the last two years was not a mistake by securing a championship at CWL Atlanta.

Red Reserve

Red Reserve is one of the top teams in the European Call of Duty circuit. The team did not see much success at CWL Dallas to begin the season, as they finished 9th to 12th. However, Red Reserve would surprise the community by going on a run at CWL New Orleans to finish with a top four placement. They were able to carry over their strong performance at CWL New Orleans to competing at a high level in Divsion A of the Pro League. With a 9-5 record, Red Reserve was able to finish 3rd and post a better record than the two time Call of Duty: WWII LAN champions Team Kaliber. Going into CWL Atlanta, Red Reserve will have the goal of capturing the first LAN championship of this season for Europe and show that they will be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season. Red Reserve will be competing at CWL Atlanta with Joseph "Joee" Pinnington, Rhys "Rated" Price, Joshua-Lee "Joshh" Sheppard and Trei "Zer0" Morris.

UNILAD

UNILAD will be looking for their first strong showing at a LAN event this season, as they were only able to secure a 13th to 16th finish at both CWL Dallas and CWL New Orleans. The Pro League has not been too kind to the roster of Matthew "Skrapz" Marshall, Bradley "wuskin" Marshall, Sean "Seany" O'Connor and Tom "Moose" Handley, as the team finished with a record of 3-4 and in 5th place in Divsion B. CWL Atlanta will have UNILAD competing to show that their recent struggles are behind them and that they are ready to make a run throughout the rest of the Call of Duty: WWII season.

Mindfreak

The lone Australian team to make it into group play for CWL Atlanta, Mindfreak will be looking to make the APAC Region proud at CWL Atlanta. However, the team will need to overcome the struggles they have had to start this season, as Mindfreak placed 9th to 12th at CWL Dallas and 13th to 16th at CWL New Orleans. A 7th place finish with a record of 4-10 in Division A of the Pro League has also not given Mindfreak much momentum to ride in on for CWL Atlanta. With stiff competition in Group D, Mindfreak will need to play their very best Call of Duty if they hope to have a good showing at the third major LAN event of the Call of Duty: WWII season. Mindfreak will be competing with Mitchel "Buzzo" Mader, Conrad "Shockz" Rymarek, Lincoln "Fighta" Ferguson and Denholm "Denz" Taylor at CWL Atlanta.

With multiple meta shifts, roster changes, and ruleset changes happening since CWL New Orleans, CWL Atlanta will be giving fans a very strong picture of the current professional Call of Duty landscape and where it could be heading for the rest of the season. Team EnVyUs, Red Reserve, UNILAD and Mindfreak and a qualifying open bracket team will be looking to emerge out of Group D victorious.
