When the Samurai Shodown 2019 character roster was announced, many puzzled at the return of all original characters except two: Wan Fu and Gen-an Shiranui. Well, it appears one of these will be settled. Wan Fu was confirmed as the final character of the Samurai Shodown season pass, alongside fellow returning characters Rimururu, Kazuki, and Basara. We also got a roadmap of release dates for all four Season Pass Characters.
The Samurai Shodown Season Pass was revealed on June 25, 2019 via the SNK Global Twitter. Rimururu was previously announced by the official Samurai Shodown account, but Basara, Kazuki, and Wan Fu made their first appearance on Tuesday as the game launched worldwide. While Wan Fu has been around since the start of SamSho, Rimururu, Basara, and Kazuki would join in Samurai Shodown III. You can see a roadmap of the character launches in the tweet below.

Rimururu will be the first up on the Season Pass list come August 2019. Unfortunately, those waiting for Wan Fu’s triumphant return will be forced to wait till February 2020. However, it’s worth noting that if one purchased Samurai Shodown before June 30, the Season Pass and all of its characters are free.
It will be interesting to see if there are further season passes that finally bring back Gen-an to complete the original SamSho roster, but it’s great to see Wan Fu again, and in his SamSho 2 glory no less. Wan Fu has gone through various weapons in each of his appearances, including a dao saber in the original and iron ball mace in Samurai Shodown VI, but the pillar from Samurai Shodown 2 was most definitely the iconic weapon for him.
As the Samurai Shodown reboot launches on June 25, 2019, it appears fans of the classic weapon fighter have a lot to look forward to in addition to the base game.
