Every run at Summer Games Done Quick is incredible - but these five stood out to us as the best of the very best.

The speedrunning summer classic, Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) has come and gone, and 2019 ranks up there as one of the absolute best events of all. After all, SGDQ 2019 amassed an incredible $3 million for Doctor’s Without Borders by event’s end and there was plenty of gaming greatness to see along the way. Here are five of our favorite speedruns that you have to check out!

Star Fox 64 - LylatR

Speedrunning a game like Star Fox 64 is all about optimization, as runner LylatR shows us here. As the game limits how fast the player can go (boosts notwithstanding,) it's all about making sure movements and combat is optimized to get as good of a time as humanly possible. Lylat and his couch are entertaining to say the least, making for an all around great run.

Pokemon Crystal - Keizaron and Pokeguy84

Speedruns of RPGs, and Pokemon game specifically, are always a fun watch - especially because there are usually so many different categories to run! Here, Keizaron and Pokeguy84 showcase both a glitched and glitchless Any % run, showing just how much faster completing the game is when glitches are involved! Plus, everyone's favorite JoJo's Bizarre Adventure villain makes a guest appearance in Keizaron's run - so how could you not stick around for the whole 3 hours?

Ducktales 2 - Swordsmankirby

We'll be honest - we have a soft spot in our collective hearts for the Ducktales games. So, naturally, we have to include Ducktales 2 on our lovely little list here. Swordsmankirby expertly navigates the rare Disney title en route to a secret ending that many players may not have seen before. Plus, it's only 16 minutes - what else are you going to do with that time?

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 - Plumato

Nope, your eyes aren't deceiving you, that's Shrek in the video thumbnail. Shrek was a hidden cross-promotional character who was unlockable in Tony Hawk's Underground 2, and Plumato completes the whole game as the giant green ogre. Shrek has some...interesting special moves to say the least, so this is definitely worth a watch. After all, Shrek is love, Shrek is life.

Sonic Generations - Thebluemania

Last, but certainly not least, is our favorite representative from Sonic block - Sonic Generations. As every Sonic game only has one good level, Sonic Generations took all those one good levels and made an entire game out of them - making it an enjoyable, playable experience. Thebluemania expertly navigates through the game and shows us some cool glitches along the way. Plus, it's Sonic - what more could you ask for?

If we had to pick a 1A, it would be this awesome blindfolded Punch-Out Wii run we previously discussed. Haven't seen it yet? Then you have to check out one of the coolest runs in GDQ history. We'll see you in January for AGDQ!
