Community members got their first taste of what the ranked mode in Teamfight Tactics will consist of during a Reddit ask me anything (AMA) session with Senior Designer Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer.

One of the major details that the SapMagic AMA revealed to players was that they will be able to queue up with friends in the Teamfight Tactics ranked mode. However, the highest rank that you will be able to play in will be limited by how many friends you queue with. Players will be able to move their way up through the Teamfight Tactics ranked mode by climbing up various tiers and divisions in the same manner as the base League of Legends game.

League points will be distributed based on a player's skill and their opponent's skill. This means that a lower skill player will receive many more league points for defeating a more skilled enemy than a higher skilled player defeating a lower skilled opponent. However, Teamfight Tactics players will not be guaranteed an exact number of league points for their placement in a ranked match.

While there are still likely many aspects of the Teamfight Tactics ranked mode for League of Legends yet to be revealed to the community, players at least now have a taste of what they can expect when the highly anticipated playlist arrives.
