DOTA 2's world championship The International is already at the highest its ever been for the event and is set to take the record for the largest esports prize pool.

To say DOTA 2 has support the world around is an understatement. DOTA 2 The International (Valve’s world championship tournament for the game) has historically been one of the largest prize pools in esports. In 2019, they’re set to reclaim a throne taken briefly away from them. The International 2019 has already raised a plus-$25 million prize pool and is on track to grow much more before the event takes place in late August.

DOTA 2 has been preparing this massive prize pool for The International 2019 for some time. With The International Battle Pass, players have been able to contribute their support to the cause with 25% of the total Battle Pass sales heading directly towards the prize pool. Whether by support for the esports scene or enthusiasm for the exclusive features that the Battle Pass and its more premium additions include, the funds collected for The International 2019 currently sit at over $25.5 million and counting. As it goes, it’s set to compete with the record-breaking prize pools set by Epic Games and Fortnite.

As seen above, Fortnite handily broke records when it was announced that the prize pool for the Fortnite World Cup would feature a $30 million prize pool. Whether through sheer enthusiasm of international DOTA fans or the growing passion for esports the world around, It would appear that crown is one that Epic and Fortnite won’t hold for long. That said, both games continue to enjoy constant attention. In addition to the weekly World Cup Qualifiers, the likes of tournaments like Keemstar’s Fortnite Fridays continue to draw talent and attention.

All competition is good competition and as the stakes continue to rise, we hope to continue to see the highest heights challenged. Even so, with this news on DOTA 2 The International 2019, it sounds like a better time than ever to be a part of the monstrous competitive scene and it will be wild to see where the final prize pool lands when it’s time to compete.

The International 2019 is set to take place August 20 - 25, 2019. If you want to support and contribute to The International, be sure to pick up the DOTA 2 Battle Pass before then.
