Mixer is by all accounts a pretty good alternative to Twitch when it comes to streaming and video games, but it’s about to get a major boost. It was recently announced that Twitch and Fortnite star personality Ninja is taking a contract to stream exclusively on Microsoft’s streaming platform. That exclusivity means that for the time being, Ninja will be leaving Twitch behind.

The news was announced on August 1, 2019 by Ninja himself via his Twitter. Ninja launched a post with a video which laid out the move as “the next chapter” in his career. Mixer themselves would soon confirm the move, welcoming Blevins onto the platform. It is unknown at the time of this writing what the specific terms of the contract were, what Ninja made from it, or how long it will last, but it appears that Ninja is fully ready to jump ship and leave Twitch behind for the time being. There’s no doubt that it’s a huge play for Mixer and could be argued to be a huge loss for Twitch. For the time being, Ninja leaves behind a channel on Twitch of over 14 million followers and nearly 480 million overall views. It’s hard to say whether or not a significant portion of those followers will follow Ninja in his exodus to the Mixer platform, but nonetheless, as popular as Ninja has become in the Fortnite and competitive gaming scene, a great deal of that popularity will likely follow him in his endeavors on Mixer. His follower count on his Mixer page sits at only 230,415 since the announcement, but it remains to be seen how that will change over the next few days. At current, Mixer is offering free subscriptions to view Ninja, so that’s also likely to boost the transition of viewers from Twitch.
