Evo 2019 may be just about to begin, but Mortal Kombat 11 and NetherRealm Studios are kicking off the fun early. Just ahead of the largest fighting game tournament around, NRS revealed a gameplay trailer of Nightwolf for MK11, along with a release date for when players can start getting their game on with the shaman.
Nightwolf was revealed on the Mortal Kombat Twitter and YouTube channels on August 1, 2019. As the second DLC character in the Kombat Pack after Shang Tsung, Nightwolf brings an all new style to his game. He’s looking like a pretty heavy zoner, but with a few options up close and personal. The spirit arrows, hatchets, and other classic tools of Nightwolf come into play, including an interesting new beam attack that can be called down at various distances. You can see the Nightwolf reveal in full below, including his Fatal Blow and first finishing move.
As with every returning character to Mortal Kombat 11, Nightwolf comes with a few new tricks up his sleeves. This time the shaman has the ability to summon spirit animals to aid him in various ways. In the reveal, we saw him buff his defense with a bear to deflect projectiles, a wolf who seemed to add offensive damage, and a hawk that could be thrown as its own projectile. Nightwolf’s variations seem like they’re going to change him between simply being a strong zoner and some versatility up close with the spirit animal buffs.
One thing is for sure, Nightwolf is coming soon. A release date of August 13, 2019 was revealed at the end of the trailer, giving early access to players who have invested in the Kombat Pack.
With Shang Tsung released and Sindel on the way, Nightwolf is looking good. We’ll look forward to having more to say about him this weekend at Evo 2019, so stay tuned.
