Find out when the 2v2 open alpha for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare takes place and how to make sure you grab a spot.

Last night, as part of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live broadcast, we were treated to the news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be getting a special 2v2 open alpha to let us test out multiplayer ahead of the game’s release. Even better, it’s just around the corner. To make sure you don’t miss out, in this guide we’ll explain how to join the 2v2 open alpha for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

How To Join The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open Alpha

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 open alpha is due to take place this weekend, starting August 23. The open alpha is planned to run for the weekend only, from the 23rd to the 25th. Unfortunately for eager COD fans on PC and Xbox, this open alpha is PS4 only.

If you do have a PS4 or PS4 Pro and some free time this weekend, the good news is that you won’t even need PS Plus to take part. Anyone who’s got access to the internet on their PS4 can join in. To get started, all you need to do is visit the PlayStation Store and download the open alpha when it becomes available on Friday.

What’s included in the open alpha? As stated above it’ll be 2v2 only, giving us the chance to take the new Gunfight mode for in a spin. In it, every player starts with the same randomized weapon loadout, making each duel a fresh and tense affair. There are five maps included: Stack, King, Speedball, Docks and Pine.

Following this weekend’s 2v2 open alpha, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be getting an open beta available on all platforms later in September, so if you’re an Xbox or PC player, you won’t have too long to wait before you get a chance to dive in as well.
