Overwatch may have been out for a while, but would you play it more if you could take it anywhere? It would appear that Blizzard’s flagship team shooter is among the latest of high-profile games to join the Nintendo Switch catalog. Not only did the announcement leak, but multiple sources have confirmed a release date on the game as well and it’s targeted for late October.
It was on August 26, 2019 that gaming Twitter Wario64 took notice of a new Overwatch-themed Nintendo Switch carrying case listed on Amazon. Though the product was delisted quickly, an Overwatch case got people talking. Nothing had been said in official capacity yet about the game coming to Switch.

Lo and behold, a few days later, a thread on ResetERA popped up which pointed to a retail listing for Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch as well. The listing clearly not only showed Overwatch for the Nintendo Switch platform, but also a release date of October 18, 2019. This leak was further boosted by Kotaku, who claimed the Overwatch announcement would be a part of the Nintendo Direct on September 4. Though Nintendo claimed the Direct would be focused on Luigi’s Mansion, Smash Ultimate, and Pokemon Sword & Shield, it wouldn’t be unlike them to slip in a few (would-be) surprises like Overwatch on the Switch.
If everything above turns out to be true, it appears we can look forward to taking Overwatch on the go come October 18. Interestingly enough, that would mean Overwatch on Switch comes just ahead of Blizzcon, which will be taking place starting November 1. Likely, it also means there may be something of grander scheme set for the convention when it comes to the Overwatch franchise, but we’ll find out what Blizzard truly has in store for us beyond this Switch release come November.
