As its 11th anniversary approaches, the Collegiate StarLeague is pushing harder than ever to be the prime platform for college esports.

The Collegiate StarLeague has been one of the go-to places for college esports in years. Across various games and competitive circuits, CSL has supplied a stellar platform to allow teams from colleges across the country to prove their prowess as esports athletes. Now, on CSL’s 11th anniversary, the group is going through a rebrand as they position to grow its network of over 55,000 players throughout over 1,800 universities across North America. CSL's rebrand was announced on September 19, 2019 via a press release from the Collegiate StarLeague and WorldGaming Network (the group that operates CSL) posted on the CSL website. According to WGN and CSL CEO and GM Wim Stocks, the need of esports at the collegiate level has only continued to grow since CSL started in 2009.

“We are excited to launch our updated branding for CSL,” Stocks commented. “The rising importance of collegiate esports for the development of the overall competitive gaming ecosystem is in full evidence, and CSL is in a lead position to provide and deliver the appropriate collegiate leagues, on-campus events, programming and content, building paths for aspiring players as well as building and supporting careers in the business of esports. We are proud of CSL’s accomplishments as one of the leaders in collegiate esports, we believe our new branding properly reflects our stature and position in this exciting realm of ours.”

The StarLeague has been beneficial to thousands of universities and tens of thousands of students looking to go pro in esports.

More than simply allowing players a solid proving ground to play from various universities, CSL has also developed the resources to offer players opportunities and help them along their esports careers. For instance, the group has awarded over $800,000 in scholarships to aspiring players and students and offers major events like CSL Grand Finals in the Springtime as a major endcap to each year of competition.

For Jorge Tatto, Executive Director of Marketing and Brand Management, being able to offer that support to the community is an initiative that CSL aims to continue to grow. It is Tatto’s hope that CSL rebranding will boost awareness of the group, as well as attracting those resources and the students and communities that need them.

“After our 10th anniversary, we felt a need to develop a new visual identity that would better position us to manage our explosive growth, while remaining committed to our players, partners and game developers,” Tatto explained. “By building a broader set of branding tools, we want to reflect the competitiveness of our platform while staying true to our roots, our rich history and our community of gamers. CSL is a leader in collegiate esports, and we are well-positioned to continue building relevance, importance, and broadest possible participation for collegiate players and helping develop the overall esports ecosystem.”

The fresh rebrand of the CSL comes ahead of a fresh year of esports across a huge host of popular competitive titles.
