Mario Kart Tour is Nintendo's latest foray into the mobile gaming space. With the competitive history of the racing franchise, you'd think you'd be able to throw down with friends online... right?

Nintendo has been making a number of jumps into the mobile gaming space with the likes of Super Mario Run, Dr. Mario World, and now Mario Kart Tour. The racing game was meant to bring all the fun of the series to mobile devices. So, the important question obviously comes up immediately: how to play Mario Kart Tour with Friends. Unfortunately, the answer is that you can’t… for now. Mario Kart Tour is currently single player only

Nintendo launched Mario Kart Tour on September 25, 2019 via the Google Play and iPhone Apple stores. It features many of the fan favorite Mario World characters in a number of unique challenges build to bring all of the fun of the famous kart racing game on the go. The obvious issue with that is that it has no online multiplayer yet. It’s strange considering a good portion of the major appeal of the game has always been racing with friends and competing.

It’s especially a strange early omission considering the likes of Dr. Mario World already features a Versus Mode in which you can challenge other human opponents. Fire Emblem Heroes also features some online capabilities where you can battle against other players’ armies, albeit AI controlled. However, “shadow racing,” in which you play against other players’ best times, isn’t out of the ordinary in racing games either.

Mario Kart Tour just launched and multiplayer is certainly on the roadmap (according to an icon spotted by Twitter user @VOOK64), so we’ll cross our fingers in hopes it comes to the game sooner than later. That said, until multiplayer comes to Mario Kart Tour, maybe you’d simply be best going to the Switch, popping in the fully fleshed out Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and having yourself a good time with friends or rivals to scratch that competitive racing itch for the time being.
