Blitzcrank's Hook Just Got An Absurd Buff In League of Legends

Beware the Blitz Q. League of Legends' latest patch has made Blitzcrank's Rocket Grab hook more dangerous than ever ahead of Worlds 2019.

A good Blitzcrank has almost always been one of the most obnoxious (or fruitful depending on which side you’re on) elements in any League of Legends game. Between whipping hooks around, displacing teammates or jungle buffs, or just generally holding people down while the rest of the team kicks them, Blitz is still a star support character in the cast, and his star is getting even brighter in the wake of Patch 9.19.

Patch 9.19 for League of Legends launched on September 24, 2019, the notes of which can be found on the League of Legends website. This is the patch that’s likely going to be in play for the entirety of the League of Legends Worlds 2019 tournament. There were a lot of interesting changes, such as Fiora’s Q now being able to strike turrets and wards and other players actually being able to see what Mordekaiser and his R Death Realm victims are doing, but by far the change that has raised most eyebrows is Blitzcrank’s changed Q Rocket Grab, which has been given an extra 100 units of range. What can that extra range do? League of Legends Redditor BigBrainedGam3r demonstrates below.

New Blitz Q buff is spooky from r/leagueoflegends

Initially, it appeared that you could do things as insane as grabbing a Blue Buff all the way from the river, which would absolutely screw most Junglers and do so pretty safely. It would appear that some of the range and its effects have been shadow patched, at least for jungle buffs, following BigBrained’s discoveries, but the Q is pretty substantially stronger with that extra distance vs champions. It will remain to be see if this means a bump in Blitzcrank picks and bans, especially as Worlds 2019 approaches, but one thing is for sure. Those players who were already doing good with Blitzcrank were just handed a pretty powerful boon for the coming meta.
