Overwatch League 2018 Championship team London Spitfire released players Birdring, NUS, and Guard, and coach JFeel from their squad.

In the wake of Overwatch League Year 2, though we saw many great games, not everyone can win. And so teams look for ways to improve between seasons. London Spitfire is getting the roster shake-up started early. They may have been champions of Overwatch League’s inaugural year, but it didn’t keep three players and a coach off the chopping block when it came to prepping for Season 3.

London Spitfire reported their dismissal of players on October 3, 2019 via their Twitter. Starting DPS Kim “Birdring” Ji-hyuk, support Kim “NUS” Jong-seok, and alternate DPS Lee “Guard” Hee-dong were the three players to be dismissed from the Spitfire roster. Not only that, but the London Spitfire coach Kim “JFeel” Jeong-min was also announced as leaving the team, though he mentioned on October 1, 2019 from his personal Twitter and ahead of Spitfire’s formal announcement that he would be moving on from the team.

Despite coming into the Overwatch League 2019 season as the reigning champions, the London Spitfire never quite recaptured the magic that allowed them to take the championship in 2018. They regularly missed the Playoffs in each stage with a 3-4 record in Stage 1 and 2, and a 4-3 record in Stage 4. They found a 6-1 finish in Stage 2 to get into Playoff contention, but were knocked out by the Hangzhou Spark in the quarterfinals. Whether it was the presence of new and capable teams, the short reign of the GOATS comp, or other factors, Year 2 just wasn’t London Spitfire’s year.

Regardless, Twin Galaxies wishes the departing London Spitfire players and coach the best. Are more roster shake-ups around the corner with the downtime between Overwatch’s next season? Stay tuned for the latest in Overwatch League news and coverage.
