It would appear the Doom Slayer's return trip to Hell will have to wait just a bit longer than expected.

DOOM Eternal has a lot for us to look forward to as we get ready to return to the depths of heck and do a little extra ripping and tearing, but it’s looking like we’re going to be waiting just a bit longer than expected. DOOM Eternal has been delayed to 2020 and has a new release date in March next year. On the plus-side, players are also getting a few new bells and whistles with pre-orders.

Bethesda and id Software announced the release date change for DOOM Eternal on October 8, 2019. The game is now set to launch on March 20, 2020 In an email (via Prima Games), Bethesda explained that the game needed a little more time to reach the potential they want for it.

“To make sure we’re delivering the best experience -- for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish -- we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020.  We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait.”

In addition to the launch date change, Bethesda and id Software had some new details regarding the launch of DOOM Eternal. It would appear that the multiplayer Invasion Mode teased at QuakeCon 2018 will now be a free DLC update after launch. Moreover, while DOOM Eternal will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in March 2020, the Switch version will take a bit longer. Bethesda and id Software will be announcing a release date for DOOM Eternal on Nintendo Switch at a later date.

To spruce up the deal, Bethesda and id Software are now offering a little pre-order bonus to go with DOOM Eternal. DOOM 64 is being reworked for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Though the game will be buyable as a standalone game, players that pre-order DOOM Eternal will get their hands on DOOM 64 for free. If you want a little something oldie-goodie to go with the new, it might be worth your time.

As we get closer to the launch of DOOM Eternal, stay tuned for more info on its PVP modes like Invasion and the new BATTLEMODE.
