New Call of Duty World League Teams & Franchising Leaked

Thanks to an early look at the new Call of Duty World League website code, we may have learned the new team names for the upcoming season of CWL.

The Call of Duty World League is entering a year of rebirth as it prepares to relaunch with a new franchise system. As we get ready for the launch of Call of Duty Modern Warfare on October 25, 2019, so too was Activision Blizzard teasing the launch of the new franchises ahead of the game. Except they might have teased a little too much. After the launch of a new website, dataminers have combed through the original code and may have revealed many of the team names for the upcoming Call of Duty World League.

It was on October 9, 2019 that the Call of Duty League launched its own new branding complete with a new Twitter handle and new website. It was with the new website that dataminers went right to work, dissecting and pulling any new information they could find. Esports Insider’s Adam Fitch in particular took note of some particular names in the code and began a thread on his findings. Stop here and leave that thread alone if you’d rather be surprised.

With the help of Fitch and others, fans compiled information about the upcoming Call of Duty World League teams and at least seemed to discover the names of most of the new franchises. The rumored names based off the original website source code (which has since been changed) seem to be as follows.

Florida Mutineers
London Royal Ravens
Los Angeles Guerrillas
OpTic Los Angeles
Minnesota Rokkr
New York Subliners
Paris Legion

None of this is confirmed and Activision Blizzard was likely going for reveals closer to the launch of Call of Duty Modern Warfare. If you look at the website (at this time of writing), under the Meet the Teams heading, only the cities are shown. Seemingly, the team names have also been taken out of the code following Fitch’s original thread. It’s unknown whether we’ll see a pivot from what was discovered, but time will tell fairly soon.
