Call of Duty Modern Warfare's Art Director recently claimed they are not developing a microtransaction system for the game.

Microtransactions and loot boxes still remain a touchy subject in competitive gaming, especially when it goes beyond cosmetics and strays into items that can actually benefit a player or hinder others. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 is right around the corner, and so the conversation about whether or not Activision will resort to putting loot boxes in the game has come up as well. It would seem that, for now at least, there are no plans for loot boxes in Call of Duty Modern Warfare on launch.

This concern was addressed on October 13, 2019 when CODMW Art Director Joel Emslie went on the game’s official Reddit to speak to the matter. Emslie reportedly took note of incorrect rumors being spread around and stepped up to snuff them out.

“There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare,” Emslie wrote. “What I can say right now is that we are definitely not working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through gameplay. Stay tuned. We're planning to release info this week.”

Although Emslie was proven wrong in the past, Black Ops 4's loot boxes came well after he had any idea they were being put in.

And so it would seem that at least when Call of Duty Modern Warfare launches, players won’t have to worry about payable transactions that will allow anyone to feasibly get ahead of others by simply playing money. That said, it doesn’t entirely take microtransactions off the table entirely either. Players may remember in Call of Duty Black Ops 4, the Grand Heist update eventcally introduced loot box transactions. That said, Emslie seems to at least stand by the idea that nothing functional for the game will ever be simply purchasable. Any microtransactions that may come down the line would likely be entirely cosmetic. At least, one would hope so.

Stay tuned for more news and updates as we await the launch of Call of Duty Modern Warfare on October 25, 2019.
