If you've been curious about how the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare era of esports will play out, the COD League has revealed the first details.

2020 isn’t far away, and the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is even closer. As Activision gets ready for launch, they haven’t forgotten to share more on the esports scene. The Call of Duty League has revealed some of the first details for how competition will play out in the 2020 competitive season.

The COD League announced a portion of the 2020 competitive system on October 18, 2019 in a press release. The format will be the usual 5-versus-5 match-ups between franchises with the addition of a “home-vs-away” system based on the franchising. It doesn’t quite go into details on whether or not this means teams will be traveling to meet each other in competition or if it will take place in dedicated arenas, but with franchises all over the world in the new system, the home-vs-away system sounds promising.

In addition to the professional match play between the city franchises in the Call of Duty League, Activision will be continuing to support Call of Duty Challengers. Challengers is COD League’s amateur league which features online tournaments, events, and ladders with the opportunity for players to rise up to the pro level in the COD League scene. Call of Duty Challengers is slated to continue to act as a sort of lower tier league and farming system, as well as carrying its own dedicated prize pool of over $1 million throughout the 2020 competitive season.

We recently saw a glimpse of branding for the Call of Duty League teams, though it was quickly taken down. That said, teams are starting to show off. ReKTGlobal and Rogue recently revealed the London Royal Ravens in an impressive introduction. The other 11 city franchises are definitely about to show up sooner than later.

Stay tuned for more news and information on Call of Duty and its upcoming competitive year.
