Drop in with your favorite buddy, because Duos is now live in Apex Legends.

Respawn shocked the world earlier this year when they randomly dropped a new free-to-play battle royale game to rival that of Fortnite and PUBG. Since then, Apex Legends has grown in its own right with numerous seasons, more characters, and a new map that players really seem to be digging. Though the standard mode requires three players to drop, the team has flirted with Solo modes before and now, for those that enjoy the freedom of choice, a duos mode is front and center and live starting today.

This isn't the first time Respawn has implemented a shakeup to their usual team format in their battle royale game. The overall player base really seemed to enjoy the ability to play solo, though that availability was only live for a short amount of time.

But with the good news comes some bad news. For those that like to battle it out for that number one spot with their beloved compadre in arms, the duos mode will only be available - like the singles before it - for a limited time. That being said, we're hoping that the feedback is so overwhelmingly positive that Respawn might consider adding this option permanently.

As for the free-to-play battle royale experience, Apex Legends is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Still no Nintendo Switch yet, but we're keeping hope alive, especially when looking at how wildly successful Fortnite seemed to be on the hybrid console.
