The Overwatch League community finally knows which patch of the game players will be playing on when the 2020 season kicks off.

The continually evolving nature of Overwatch is always a major discussion point in the game's community, especially when it comes to which current patch that teams from the Overwatch League will compete on during a season. The first two seasons of the global esports league have seen the professional teams play on different patches compared to the live version of the first-person shooter that everyone else around the world has access to experience at a given time.

However, the community has finally gotten confirmation regarding which Overwatch patch that the Overwatch League will be using when the 2020 season begins.

Patch 1.44 recently went live on the Overwatch Public Test Realm (PTR) server for players to test out and help give feedback back to Blizzard. It was then on the official Overwatch Redditt thread for the 1.44 PTR patch that Senior Product Director Jon Specter confirmed to the community that the Overwatch League will begin its third season playing on the current 1.44 patch that is on the PTR.

Now, it is always possible that the patch the Overwatch League uses will change during the season. However, the state of the game will likely be that of the 1.44 PTR patch for a decent amount of time before the next significant update arrives in the game at a later date.

You can find all of the character changes that were implemented in the Overwatch PTR 1.44 patch below:

Immortality Field

  • Maximum duration reduced from 8 to 5 seconds
  • Cooldown increased from 20 to 25 seconds

Amplification Matrix

  • Amplification Matrix ultimate cost increased by 20%

Endothermic Blaster (Primary Fire)

  • Slowing effect now reduces enemy movement speed from 20-70%, down from 30-90%
  • Slowing effect duration reduced from 1.5 to 1.0 second

  • Cooldown decreased from 5 to 3 seconds

  • Damage reduction reduced from 50% to 40%

Storm Arrow (Primary Fire)

  • Maximum projectile speed reduced from 125 to 110

Developer Comment:
The way Hanzo arrows work is there is a base speed of 25, and it adds another bonus speed determined by how long the shot was charged up. Last patch this was 25+100 x Charge for a total maximum speed of 125. The PTR value is now 25+85 x Charge so the max speed is now 110, the same value as it was before the Hanzo rework.

Rising Uppercut

  • Uppercut recovery time increased from 0.2 to 0.5 seconds
