The Fortnite developer is cracking down heavily on collusion in 2020 when it comes to upcoming competitive events for the battle royale game.

The competitive Fortnite Battle Royale scene blew up in popularity in 2019 thanks to the enormous prize pool that was available for players to grab a share of during the 2019 Fortnite World Cup. Unfortunately, the large amount of prize money resulted in some players deciding to cheat to gain an advantage in Fortnite World Cup competitions. One infraction that reared its ugly head throughout the world of competitive Fortnite in 2019 was collusion, where opponents would purposely work together to help each other when they were not allowed to do so.

Now, Epic Games has provided an update to the competitive Fortnite collusion rule that will hopefully stop players from trying in any of the competitive events for Fortnite in 2020.

The developer announced that it would be taking action against any form of in-game communication between enemy players via signaling in official competitive Fortnite events. The examples that Epic Games gave of signaling that would break the collusion rule are as follows:

  • Pick-axe swinging
  • Emoting
  • Toy tossing
  • Jumping

Pacifist gameplay is still allowed for players to utilize if they wish. However, if any form of signaling like the examples above, is involved, Epic Games will review the incident and take appropriate action against the perpetrators.

It remains to be seen if this new rule update will be able to eliminate all forms of collusion from competitive Fortnite events. Still, it is a strong start to making sure that the rule is laid out and has no room for misinterpretation.
