While the first weekend of May brought warmer weather to large parts of the country to accompany spring, on-line Steven Kleisath and Stephen Boyer were leaping to a new high score on the arcade game that made Mario and Luigi household names. At MAMEhub, the two Steves put on a memorable performance by reaching a two-player score of 1.2 million on Mario Bros., the Nintendo 1983 arcade release created by the legendary Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Given the experience of the two competitors, Kleisath (playing as Luigi) and Boyer (playing as Mario) opted to max out the difficulty settings for the title, performing under conditions or game settings known as Ultimate NO POW Hardest Difficulty.
To mark the occasion, Kleisath will be on-hand tomorrow night to provide commentary during a rebroadcast of the MAMEhub performance as well as to field questions about the gameplay strategies the two players developed to push the score into new territory. Kleisath plans to cap things off with live streaming of Miyamoto’s classic Donkey Kong with an eye on achieving a million point game.
