Trick or treat...almost! Another week, another set of gaming achievements from the Twin Galaxies community! As before, we reviewed the wealth of Undisputed and Verified scores that were recently peer-reviewed and earned their place on the leaderboard. On this edition of the Scoreboard Spotlight, we take a look at high score tumbles, Olympic achievements, bug spray, an insect invasion and landing on the moon, so read on!
Desidious – Stair Dismount – Slippery When Wet (Android) – Points
Everything fell into place for Desidious on her latest submission for Stair Dismount for Android devices. Set high atop a ladder on the Slippery When Wet stage, Desidious sent her avatar for a painful tumble that landed with a new TG record of 663,334 points, beating the previous record by 65k.
Roger Blair – World Sports Competition – Discus Throw (TurboGrafx-16) – Furthest Distance
Roger Blair cleaned up his room and flexed his controller with an Olympian flare to land a new record on the TurboGrafx-16 title World Sports Competition. It all started with some routine housework when the game wound up on Roger's floor. From there, Roger decided to give it a go all the way to 79.020 meters to beat the previous record by a hard-fought 1.02 meters.
Barra – Donkey Kong 3 (Arcade) – Points
Barra only had 5 minutes to take out his fury on Donkey Kong, so he didn't hold back and clinched a new high score as part of the MAME 5 Minute Challenge playing Donkey Kong 3. If Kong attacked you with an army of angry bees and other flying critters, we're sure you'd also whip out that bug spray and push up a toxic cloud as Barra did. But unlike us, he finished his run to emerge as the current leader with 161,500 points.
Lexa – Insector X (Arcade) – Points
During a high score weekend at the ArcadeHry.cz in the Czech Republic, Lexa emerged from the contest as the champion on the arcade scrolling shooter Insector X. Taking control an insect-sized warrior named Yanmer, Lexa battled an entire army of cyborg insects in the hopes of freeing the insect world from its dark ruler queen. Although the queen lived to see another day, Lexa closed out his run with 700,500 points for a new TG world record.
Jon Turner – Lunar Lander (Arcade) – Points
Jon Turner aimed for a history-making moon shot and stuck the landing with a new TG world record on the 1979 Atari classic Lunar Lander. With the goal of landing his ship on multiple landing sites across the moon's surface, Jon made good on 10 surface landings that added up to a total of 2,175 points, beating the previous arcade record set in 2010 by 100 points.
This covers our Scoreboard Spotlight for this week. As a reminder, these were just a few of exceptional records that were adjudicated and accepted recently. Every record that made it through verification and landed on our leaderboards has a well-deserved place in the Twin Galaxies gaming pantheon.
