Here at Twin Galaxies, we love ourselves a good high score and a record time. It’s why every week we look deep in the wealth of Undisputed and Verified scores in the Twin Galaxies Adjudication Archive to showcase a selection of the stellar achievements that were reviewed and approved by the TG community over the last week. On this edition of the Scoreboard Spotlight, we meet an alien gang, blast off into space, drive like there's no tomorrow, and join the local Business Improvement Association, so read on!
Barra – Cosmo Gang the Video (MAME) – Points
Everyone's patience was growing thin with the Cosmo Gang and their mischief across Earth, so Barra stepped up to rid the galaxy of the colorful aliens and earned a new TG record for his efforts on the Namco shooter Cosmo Gang the Video. With tact and skill, Barra used the Hyper Beat starship to destroy 32 stages of heavenly cuteness to finish out his run with 10,243,230 points, beating the previous record from 2011 by 4 million.
Germano D'Alessandro – Astro Fighter (Arcade) – Points
This November, Germano D'Alessandro travelled back to 1979 and broke a 15 year-old record on the retro shooter Astro Fighter. Confronted with successive waves of attacking enemies bent on ending the game quickly to maximize those quarter drops, Germano withstood the onslaught and finished with 44,160 points, beating the previous high score by 7k.
OniDensetsu – R-Type Complete CD (PC Engine) – Points
OniDensetsu had the complete video game experience as he attacked a 6 year-old record with his submission on R-Type Complete CD for the PC Engine. In a run filled with great cut scenes and set to the addictive soundtrack by composer Takushi Hiyamuta, OniDensetsu pushed his R-9 “Arrowhead” fighter to the limit for a new TG record score of 231,40 points.
MyOwnWorstEnemy – Burnout 3: Takedown (PlayStation 2) – Takedowns
MyOwnWorstEnemy's car looked better at the beginning of the race, but then again you're not going to earn a record without scratching the paint when racing on Burnout 3: Takedown for the PS3. Taking a spin on the Downtown Southland track for the most Takedowns, MyOwn slammed, tailgated, and rampaged through the streets for a new TG record of 43 takedowns, adding 11 more to the previous record set in 2007.
fredb999 – Final Fight (Xbox) – Hardcore Difficulty – Points
Holly Wood, Bred, Roxie and Damnd gave fredb999 a big Metro City welcome as he played through the Capcom classic Final Fight on the Xbox. Okay, we lied, the Metro City Gang actually wanted to tie up fredb999's Cody in front of a pack of exploding dynamite unless he continued, but on the Hardcore Difficulty track, it's one credit only. Still, fredb999 doled out some affection with his fists for a final score of 242,630 points.
This covers our Scoreboard Spotlight for this week. As a reminder, these were just a few of exceptional records that were adjudicated and accepted recently. Every record that made it through verification and landed on our leaderboards has a well-deserved place in the Twin Galaxies gaming pantheon.
Keep scoring high, finishing fast, and game on!
