A world class Zoo Keeper competitor returns to his old job and takes up animal-catching duties once again for a new high score record – and more!

Happy New Year! The clock has turned over from “23” to “24,” and during the change-over – surprise, sufpries! - gamers kept gaming! And that can only mean another week of awesome submissions to sort through in order to share some highlights from the Twin Galaxies community. This week we take a tour of a pinball funhouse, share in some pocket-sized brutality, pay a destructive visit to the North Pole, blast some arcade aliens, perform some acrobatic flips, and conduct some overdue repairs to the zoo – so let's go!

GregDeg – Funhouse (PC – Pinball FX3) – Points

Michael Sroka ignored the taunts and had the last laugh with a visit to remember playing Williams' 1990 masterpiece Funhouse as part of the Pinball FX3 suite for PC. While the talking ventriloquist dummy named Rudy gave Michael a rough time, he wasn't about to leave the attractions early. Making it to Midnight, the fun really started as Michael earned over 7 million points on his third ball to close out his game with 8,704,660 points.

Don Atreides –  Pocket Fighter (PlayStation) – Points

Don Atreides opened the season of high score competition with a mean punch on Pocket Fighter for the Sony PlayStation. Reuniting the cast from Super Puzzle Fighter II, Don entered the ring as Street Fighter's most famous cop Chun Li for a head-to-head battle against the ever-fierce Felicia from Darkstalkers. What transpired was a 3 round battle-to-the-brink that was raining gems and points leading to an inaugural high score of 719,300 points.

Desidioius –  Twisted Metal 3 (PlayStation) – Fastest Completion

Desidious wasn't counting on getting any presents under the tree this year with her explosive visit to the North Pole on the vehicular combat video game Twisted Metal 3 for the PlayStation. Jolly Ol' St. Nick wasn't so jolly after his northern home was destroyed along with the workshop filled with toys for all the good kiddies. The elves jumped into action to stop the mayhem but they were outmatched as Desidious cleared the stage of cheer in 5 minutes flat for an inaugural record.

Germano D'Alessandro – Astro Fighter  (Arcade) – Points

To ring in the New Year, Germano D'Alessandro closed out 2023 with a new arcade record on the 1979 arcade space shooter Astro Fighter. With record scores of 44,160 and 55,350 points achieved in November, Germano kept building on a strong foundation of gaming excellence and by adding another 20k to tally for a new high score and TG record of 85,670 points.

Varnavas Tryfonos – Verticow (Android) – Points

Varnavas Tryfonos tossed an old-school soldier as far and as gracefully as possible for his latest submission on Verticow for Android devices. With the game's real-world paper cut-out vibe, Varnavas kept his soldier circling and grunting for nearly a minute before flinging him to a total of 161.2 points.

Bryguy – Zoo Keeper (Arcade) – Points

Bryguy boldly stepped into classic arcade gaming history with a new Twin Galaxies world record on the quirky-but-addictive Taito title Zoo Keeper. Bryguy had already made his mark back in January 2022 when he first broke the record with a final score of 73,702,300 points. To ring in the New Year for 2024, Bryguy returned to the role of Zeke the jumpy zoo keeper trying to tame an unruly herd of brick-eating animals as well as rescuing Zeke's girlfriend Zelda by being the first player to officially breach the 100 million point barrier with a head-turning result – an incredible record score of 112,907,250 points. Congratulations, bryguy!

This covers our Scoreboard Spotlight for this week. As a reminder, these were just a few of exceptional records that were adjudicated and accepted recently. Every record that made it through verification and landed on our leaderboards has a well-deserved place in the Twin Galaxies gaming pantheon.

Keep scoring high, finishing fast, and game on!
