School's out for summer! Which means planning for vacation – where to go, how much luggage can fit in the car, and what games to bring. But before you hit the road, this week we have five performances to share from the Twin Galaxies community. Where to start? How about we start with some moon dust, charge up with some electric pinball, drop by the boxing ring, battle some nasty interstellar invaders, and then cap it all off with some cosmic mine clearing? Let's go!
Germano D'Alessandro – Moon Patrol (M.A.M.E.) – Points
America may be aiming to get astronauts back on the moon by the end of 2026, but Germano D'Alessandro was already there with a new personal best score on the 1982 arcade hit Moon Patrol where he looped the game's stages A thru Z twice and racked up 144,310 points for a new personal best.
Frogatr – Pokémon Pinball (Nintendo Game Boy) EMU - Points
New TG member Frogatr stepped into an emulator time machine and returned with a new high score on the 1999 release Pokémon Pinball for the Nintendo Game Boy. For 30 minutes, Frogatr used her Poké Ball to catch 'em all including a head-to-head battle against Mewtwo before ending her run with 3,038,267,700 points. Congratulations!
zallard1 – Super Punch-Out!! (Arcade) – Points
In June 2017, zallard1 reigned for 6 months as heavyweight champion of the world with an action-packed run on Nintendo's arcade classic Super Punch-Out!! For over an hour, zallard1 held his ground and delivered a whopping 60 knock-outs to finish with 1,971,800 points.
Nicholas Adrian Villarreal – Galaga (Arcade1Up) – Points
Nicholas Adrian Villarreal stepped up to his Arcade1Up Galaga machine and etched his name into history with a new TG record. Fighting his way through 82 stages of sworming aliens, Nicholas kept up a blistering pace of attack to reach 4,101,700 points, beating the previous record set in 2022 by 156k. Congratulations!
Brett Walach – Mine Storm (Vectrex) – 1 Life Only – Points
Brett Walach only had one video game life to live, but he made it count with a new TG record on the 1982 release Mine Storm for the Vectrex Arcade System. Competing on the “1 ship only” settings, Brett battled waves of sinister space mines on the multi-directional shooter that culminated with a galactic score of 134,025 points.
This covers our Scoreboard Spotlight for this week. As a reminder, these were just a few of exceptional records that were adjudicated and accepted recently. Every record that made it through verification and landed on our leaderboards has a well-deserved place in the Twin Galaxies gaming pantheon.
Keep scoring high, finishing fast, and game on!
