Summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere) isn't officially over for several more weeks, but September often serves as that sign-post for the end of that summer-time fun. But fortunately that doesn't have to apply to gaming fun – or gaming excellence. And we have the proof! This week we're going to get some exercise, courtesy of a search-and-destroy mission, rock sculpting, touching the grass, a metallic drive through the countryside, and some deep space evil. Ready, set, go!
Germano D'Alessandro – Astro Fighter (Arcade) – Points
Germano D'Alessandro achieved a remarkable milestone in pursuit of gaming excellence on the 1979 arcade shooter Astro Fighter. Having achieved and broken the TG world record for high score with previous submissions, Germano continued to aim higher and became the first known gamer to break the 100k barrier with an “out of this world” haul of 107,020 points. Congratulations!
Mr Flibble – Asteroids Recharged (Playstation 5) – Points
Mr. Flibble blazed a new space trail on the TG leaderboard with an inaugural submission on Asteroids: Recharged for the PS5. Fully charged for an instellar run on Classic Recharged Mode, Mr. Fibble stayed in the fight for over an hour blasting up a score of 113,630 points.
Steve Germershausen - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 (PlayStation 2) – Fewest Strokes
Steve Germershausen hit the 18 holes of Reflection Bay with the fury of a famous tiger on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 for the PS2. Yes, we're talking about Tiger Woods, and Steve made the most of his time as the iconic golfer by teeing up a fewest strokes record of 47, beating the previous record of 49 from 2006.
Almighty Dreadlock – Hill Climb Racing (Android) – Distance
Almighty Dreadlock has driven through forests, deserts, caves, nuclear plants, even the North Pole, but nothing will prepare you for his race down the Mega Highway on Hill Climb Racing. Under a sky filled with falling swords and a path strewn with crushed engines, AD saved the headbanging for the finish line with a “it's so metal” final distance of 3,593 meters.
Martin Kolar – R-Type (Arcade) – Points
The legendary Arcade Hry in the Czech Republic was the scene of heart-pounding action as Martin Kolar fought the powerful Bydo empire to a new high score on the legendary arcade shooter R-Type. Martin earned his stripes by saving humankind and looping the game before he grinded out a point-pressing finish with 1,503,700 points to clinch a new TG record.
This covers our Scoreboard Spotlight for this week. As a reminder, these were just a few of exceptional records that were adjudicated and accepted recently. Every record that made it through verification and landed on our leaderboards has a well-deserved place in the Twin Galaxies gaming pantheon.
Keep scoring high, finishing fast, and game on!
