Fortnite Battle Royale has a new way to play, and it's made for those who want their Fortnite in a hurry. We break down what exactly the new Blitz Mode is and how it works.

The Fortnite Battle Royale craze has been sweeping the globe lately with more people tuning in to watch than ever before. The game itself is free to play, so the barrier for entry is incredibly low right now. Having said that, some people may struggle to find the time to squeeze in a full game, what with the running, and the looting, and the tense stand-offs that are only broken because your dog tries to jump into your lap while you’re playing (No, I'm not bitter about that one). If only there was a game that was like Fortnite, but a little bit faster, more action packed.

Introducing Blitz Mode, the latest way to play Fortnite Battle Royale. Blitz Mode is Epic Games' answer to people that want a faster, more action packed experience, with modified rules to speed up the gameplay. All players drop into the first Storm Circle, and the circle itself begins moving almost immediately, forcing players into confrontations much faster than normal. In order to balance the mode a bit better, Epic has made modifications to the availability of loot, and players harvest resources a whole lot faster as well. Here’s how the loot works:

  • Increased chances of treasure chests spawning from 50-70% to 80-90%.
  • Increased chances of ammo boxes spawning from 65-80% to 85-95%.
  • Floor Loot spawns nearly 100% of the time.
  • Supply Drop spawn interval lessened from 180s (+/- 30s) to 80s (+/- 20s).
  • Supply Drop descent time shortened from 60s to 30s.
  • Launchpad spawn likelihood greatly increased.

So you might be wondering, how exactly do I try out this new game type? Well, it’s really very simple. After launching the game, you’ll see the usual game-mode selection, pictured here.

The Change Mode button will allow you to access the different modes you can play in Fortnite Battle Royale currently.

After clicking on the game-type, you can see Blitz Mode at the bottom, where you can choose between Squad and Solo mode.

You can run solo or with your regular teams in the current iterations of Blitz Mode.

After that, the game is up to you. Blitz Mode takes a fraction of the time of a normal Battle Royale match, so you're sure to see a little bit of a chaotic mix-up in tactics, but if timeliness is what you're looking for, you can't go wrong with this version of the game. Fast loot, kills, building, and mayhem await, so hit the ground running if you want to survive in this hectic, high-speed mode.

Don't quite get why Fortnite has become as big as it has? We breakdown how Fortnite rose to such heights of popularity across the world.
