Nintendo have announced the Super Smash Bros Invitational and Splatoon 2 World Championship will kick off at E3 2018.

In a somewhat surprising move due to Nintendo’s reluctance to sponsor official tournaments for their games, the Japanese company has announced two competitive events for their games, both taking place during E3 2018. Both the Super Smash Bros Invitational and the Splatoon 2 World Championship will be streamed online, and for the former, it’s the very first exhibition tournament for the game.

For the invitational, Nintendo will be selecting a handful of players themselves and inviting them to compete, hence ‘invitational’. The Splatoon 2 World Championship on the other hand will have online qualifiers for each region (US/Canada, Europe, Japan, and AU/NZ). The US & Canada online qualifiers will be hosted by Battlefy and will take place on April 21 at 11am PT/2pm ET, followed by the finals on April 28 at 8am PT. For the other regions, Nintendo advises to check your region specific information. Click here to register for the US & Canada qualifiers.

Prior to the Splatoon 2 World Championship, Nintendo will host U.S./Canada online qualifiers. The U.S./Canada qualifier will be the Splatoon 2 U.S./Canada Inkling Open 2018 hosted by Battlefy.
