Super Metroid: Get as far as you can on Zebes without taking damage [PPMDC]

How far can you get on Planet Zebes in Super Metroid without taking damage? Progress will be measured in missile packs acquired. Major glitches are ALLOWED. All winners of this bounty will be featured in a future piece at perfectpacman.com

Rules

Last time we held PPMDC bounty challenges, we offered damageless Ocarina of Time, with progress measured by number of Skulltula tokens acquired. We're continuing that tradition here, this time with missile (and super missile) packs acquired on Super Metroid.

The opening fight against Ridley is technically possible to do damageless, and if you can do it, please show off your stuff. (Swag strats are always encouraged!) But to make this challenge a little more approachable, the Space Station sequence doesn't count. You still have to play that sequence (otherwise emulator save states would be given a big advantage over console submissions), and you may take whatever damage there you wish, but the damageless portion begins when you touch down on Zebes.

Major glitches are ALLOWED, but as with the Ocarina challenge, nothing that artificially inflates your missile tally will count toward missiles collected. You can break the game to get to those missile packs, but the packs that count as measuring your progress must be collected the old-fashioned way.

Even without fighting Ridley, the first Chozo boss (the one that gives you bombs) will still end many runs. I recommend going in with full 10 missiles, and if necessary saving one for his final form. After that, have fun exploring!

IMPORTANT: A run will only be considered valid if you beat that first Chozo boss, or if using major glitches, if three or more missile packs are acquired.

Console and emulation platforms (including Virtual Console) are allowed.

The score you should enter is the number of missile packs and super missile packs you acquire. (Each pack increases your capacity by five.) So if you get total 25 regular missiles and 5 super missiles, your score is 6.

Other PPMDC bounty rules:

- All performances must be recorded from start to finish, and must adhere to general TGSAP rules and community expectations, including those particular to the platform and emulation being used.

- The date of this achievement must be stated. It is requested, but not required, that submissions for this bounty be achieved on or after the date this bounty is posted. No proof is required for date of achievement, and submitted runs for this bounty will not be disqualified on that basis. (In other words, it's safe to vote on submissions that lack proof of date but appear otherwise genuine.) However, submitting old runs, or misrepresenting dates, may disqualify the submitter from recognition for future PPMDC bounties.

- Swag strats are encouraged, and will be featured in the eventual write-up.

Reward Description and Details

In September 2023, perfectpacman.com will post a write-up featuring the results of the second round of PPMDC bounties hosted at TG. Everyone who submits a valid run will be featured. Winners will also be given the opportunity to have their comments about this challenge or any other appropriate gaming-related topic published.

Top billing will be given to the player who collects the most missile packs. In the case of a tie, the quickest to achieve the most packs will win the tiebreaker.
