It appears as though in order for record submissions to be legitimate, the run must be on original hardware. For games categorized as Atari 2600, is a performance on an Atari Flashback considered valid?

    No. Atari Flashbacks are emulation, and not accepted for the 2600 platform.


    The Atari Flashback consoles do have their own platform to track scores on, however.

    To answer your question: No, the Atari Flashback has its own list of records. They are categorized separately from Atari 2600.


    You can navigate to the list of games for the Atari Flashback by clicking Records at the top of the page, and then by selecting Leaderboards. You will be taken to a page where all of the systems are listed in a column on the left side of the page. Check the box for Atari Flashback to review which tracks are available currently.

    Unfortunately, there aren't many tracks for the flashback right now-if there is a game you would like "tracked", let us know here, someone will help you get them started-depending on the game, I may even try to play along!

    Another quick question ... what about 2600 scores performed on an Atari 7800? Are these acceptable, or would they need their own track, or would they be categorized under Atari 7800?

    The Atari 7800 has hardware compatibility with Atari 2600 games, so submissions under the Atari 2600 platform are the correct place to put them.


    But yes, this is a good question - I'll look into adding something about backwards compatibility between systems and what's acceptable for submitting to the new user guide. Thanks!
