people like that really need two profiles, cause as humans they certainly have the right to share their whole life. but yeah, if they're trying to build a brand they'd do well to stick to that brand. i'd never unfollow someone for their politics but i would unfollow a page thats meant to be about one aspect of their personality when it gets littered with another

Exactly. I'd never ditch a friend over a political matter. But these companies/gaming personalities aren't my friends. They need to have an objective and stick with it: They can either cultivate a fan base or they can signal their own virtue and cultivate an echo chamber. They cannot maintain both, and it is sad and pathetic they don't understand this ... yet.

Yeah, I'm not a politics person. Not something I like to delve into. Though I recently made a Twitch myself, it'd focus more on chilling out, bit of Tetris, maybe other retro games as well.

I absolutely agree with you, and this should be a general rule.

If you stream games on Twitch, have a YouTube makeup channel or an Instagram "hey look at my a$$" profile, keep out any kind of politics.

But you know how it works: politics generate anger, anger generates discussion, discussion generates clicks, clicks generate revenue.

So it's all about the green in the end.

Have a gaming/gaming-related Twitter profile? Are you a gaming publisher? Game Programmer? Game retailer? Gaming YouTuber/personality?

Your question is based on the premise that it was a TG member or members about whom I was referring. That's a conclusion I would not recommend jumping to.

@JJT_Defender I don't think Garrett's advice was targeted towards a specific person (or group), but was more like a calm and contained "rant" against a dangerous trend that is infecting the gaming community (among others) as a whole.

One thing people seems to not understand is that I don't came to your stream on Twitch, follow your tutorial on YouTube, listen to your song or watch your movie to get political advice, I do it to be entertained.

And most importantly I don't really care if you vote for John Jackson or Jack Johnson, but be aware that if you spend the entirity of your time online throwing sh*t at Jack Johnson and his supporters you might lose 50% of your following. And for what? Internet points?

I have friends, including from here on TG, that wade into political stuff on their personal FB page, and say some things I agree 0% and other friends who say things I agree with almost 100%, and some 50/50. I not only have no problem with it, Ill actually engage with them. But they're not a game publisher, YouTuber, etc., doing this crap on platforms they monetize or solicit business (including clicks, subscriptions, likes, views, selling actual product, memberships, Patreon donations, etc.) That's just plain stupid, and theyre plain idiots, and they deserve to lose half their revenue.
