"It's a real photo. Didn't cheat. Trust me, bro."

This will serve as my repository of examples why a photo should never be considered sufficient evidence. Note the intentional inclusion of things that make the examples ridiculous while demonstrating how easy it would be to simply show the correct cartridge in the photo to pass it off as legitimate. For the record, *none* of these photos were photoshopped or altered in any way. I may put some videos in here (without all of the gameplay) showing this same kind of ridiculousness to demonstrate why partial video is soundly rejected as well.

Feel free to link to it should one come across another who does not yet understand why photo-only evidence packages lead to disastrously unreliable scoreboards.

You're not suggesting this was a cheated run, are you? Anyone can get a perfect Pitfall in 15 minutes 35 seconds, right?

Jace Hall posted this one, during the months-long dispute over Todd Rogers.

I countered with these. Mine weren't Photoshopped and I didn't use an emulator, but the times aren't legit, either :)

i strongly felt the 5.54 was real, but the rest was photoshopped. you know, 5.54 will come up in a 10 second game lol. i looked to me like the car wasnt far enough long either. i suspect it was a real game where the photo was taken early, so the car and score were real but the rest, the parts people dont pay attention were photoshopped to make the game look over

just my speculation. i know dragster the car can end in differnt places, but that alleged todd photo, i've never the car end so far from the right

I remember my very 1st post regards demons to diamonds. PARTIAL VIDEO...Which was rejected...But i soon giving much better evidence now, only thing my major issue is picture quality. Each game causes glare off tv screen, i own better tv's but the Atari game play starts lagging, half a second response. I see your game play excellent, how can i alter myself...i read things like coaxial leads etc. Any advice will be most helpful.

With my photos, I used a hacked ROM and simply changed the graphics for the digits to increase the chances of that time being displayed (for example, the "6" was changed to a "5", and so on). I then used a Harmony cart to play it on a real system. Like screenshots, you can't always trust scores when devices like Harmony and UnoCarts are used, because you don't know if the code being used is 100% original or not. A site like TG who bills themselves as the 'official score keeper' can no longer accept screenshots, and full videos must be required. And even then, you've probably seen enough examples of video being spliced to know you can't always blindly trust videos - "experienced eyes" need to watch it.

Precisely the reason I may not partake in the AA tournament this time around, I have a blast trying out different carts etc. but there's been way too many 'questionable' submissions in my opinion....full video evidence should be the only way to go!!

Hey Scott, you will see “C” at the end of the race, if after hitting maximum speed you pull left on the joystick and engage the clutch, all the 5.57 runs will have that.

I also have a hacked rom where it guarantees you a 5.51, again with a keen eye you can spot the difference in a video

That's the reason why I'm not interested in the tournaments that Paul organizes, he is a great guy and his efforts to encourage videogaming are greatly appreciated, but just accepting photos as evidence without having to show video of gameplay or even the game settings or an .inp file, makes it not worth it for me to even try to get good at those games.

Patrick Stanley, the winner or last year is a great guy and I don't think for a moment that he cheated in anyway, but most players participating don't have a TG account and they could easily cheat if they wanted to.

I use a VHS recorder to hook up the console. The VHS recorder outputs SCART and, depending on TV, it either goes direct to TV from there* or through a SCART-to-HDMI converter.

    * Strictly speaking the signal will go through a splitter, one to TV & another to capture device.
