RetroUSB's "AVS" Nintendo System

retroUSB, makers of many "repro" carts and innovative accessories for classic gaming consoles is releasing this soon...

Has anyone thought about getting one? I'm seriously considering it, for a few key reasons:

1) much higher image quality than my AV-modded top loader NES.

2) Cheaper than (or comparable to) modding an existing NES for RGB or HDMI.

3) It's much easier to capture a high quality image from an hdmi source; Most recent capture cards sold today don't capture anything besides HDMI and maybe component.

4) Plays NES and Famicom games natively @720p

5) Uses original NES accessories.

What would everyone think about NES score submissions done on an AVS?

Will you be getting one? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

I would seriously consider getting one. I'm in the process of selling of all my non-HDMI compatible consoles as I want to get rid of my bulky CRT tv. I just don't have the room.

If the Retro USB NES is allowed for score submission here at Twin Galaxies and the price is fair, I would get one.

If it works like the Retron5 where it rips the rom to the console and plays it by emulation, then I will pass, as it will not be allowed for score submission.

This isn't like the retron 5 where on-board emulators are running a rom, this page explains better than I probably could:

The most important take-aways from that link to me are:

    - it has 100% compatibility with all titles of all NES regions
    - no input lag
    - support for all accessories including the Famicom Disc System

Most importantly: "This is not a Retron. This is, for all intents and purposes, a NES."

I'm in the same boat here, except I've already got rid of my CRT awhile back.

Making everything work with current HD displays and capture devices will be much easier with this solution, in my opinion!

Just an update on this blog entry...

I did end up pre-ordering an AVS system, and it's expected to ship mid September...Can't wait to play on it!

Also, I wanted to be sure everyone knew I wasn't being paid to promote this product by the manufacturer; I'm just excited to have a better options for both playing my NES games on an LCD HDTV and video capturing them, as well. I paid full retail price for this product!
