Why Are We Still Here?

TG - "This thread is being locked."

Of course it is. Any discussion revolving around the practices of TG or members that violate the standards that should be in place gets locked. See any forum thread questioning now banned members RTM and Snowflake. People asked questions, threads were locked, threads deleted, and crucial members to the "TG economy" banned. An old ref had free reign over calling people names and personal insults for a long time yet when members engage with them and ask questions both parties get "banned" even though one side never resorted to name calling. In the era of TG being sued by Billy Mitchell how is one to perceive a scoreboard that not only shuts down conversations of cheating but goes out of their way to ban people that were frequent submitters and adjudicators that weren't cheaters?

"We have received reports of toxicity and harassment from several TG Members."

Redact the names and show the complaints then. I would personally like to see the reports (without the usernames or real names) and what they said. If I had to guess you guys got two complaints maybe at a maximum three. The active users on this site is less than 50. I would even say less than 30. Toxicity is very subjective. Remember I got banned on this site for deleting a spreadsheet that was on my personal Google drive even though the people I gave admin privileges' to had those privileges for over 5 months. To top it all off I was unbanned because of the users of the site requesting it and then banned again less that 3 days later. I was unbanned by Jace only for Dave Hawkshit to override him and ban me again. All because of a personal grudge that revolved around that moron Dave and his "Research Team" (that didn't know what an A/B switch did on an Atari 2600) not backing up my spreadsheet that was so vital. Just like Snowflake I was never given a reason or a timeline for how long I was banned. So when I see admin talk about "toxicity" and "harassment" I just assume people are talking about things they don't want to be talked about. For christ sake people that had previously argued and fought in the past were making up with each other in that thread.

"This is a warning to any/all participants who may have committed TG TOS violations."

What violations? There is no clear rules listed on this site. Let me quote you guys for a second. The very first line of the policy goes as follows.

"As a member of this TG Forum, you have the right to voice your opinions and views on the topics we cover. You also have the right to disagree with official TG positions and the opinions of other Forum members."

People were voicing their opinions and views while disagreeing with TG positions yet the thread was shut down. Then you scroll down and see this.

"As in other forums, you have NO "free-speech" rights in TG forums."

So right away there is mixed messages. Are we able to speak our mind or is there no free speech on here and all speech is funneled through admins? If it is the latter then I dont know why people are still sticking around when the very notion of bringing up bad history involving the old admin and new admin will get you banned. Again, it's all subjective with what you chucklefucks consider "toxicity" and I sure as fk don't trust your judgement.

"Please discontinue any further violations. Thank you."

I would suggest everyone on here do that but as an added bonus leave this site altogether. In this day and age sites like this are outdated. There is no reason to submit to a site where half the scores are BS (see most 80s arcade scores and the process to remove them next to impossible) and they demand you to upload on their site. Lets face it TG isnt going to outlast Youtube or Twitch, So when the inevitable happens (this site being defunct) all of your achievements are going to go with it.

This site started as a gamble with Jace to bring H1Z1 to a mainstream spotlight. He failed like most of his projects and now we gotta suffer through being neglected, false promises, and smothered hope. As soon as the H1Z1 plan fell through is the exact time Jace stopped doing things like "State of the Galaxies".

I fully expect the excuses to come through now. I even expect people to be silenced and threads locked, Its just the norm now days. I gotta give TG 2008 some credit though... The website worked better and those who were silenced were done so in a more professional manner. At least they were given a reason and a timeline. With that being said.... Fk this site.

On one hand, bye. I will not miss you. On the other, there are valid points brought up here.

I have never been given any manner of warnings, but certain posts have been deleted out of nowhere with no reason given as to why. If something were objectionable, its perhaps one line out of multiple paragraphs. Deleting entire thoughts over someone (a moderator?) objecting to a single word or line of text out of that whole thought seems foolish.

That said, if this site has a moderation team, they should all be removed. It is this moderation team that is driving wedges throughout the community. I have some further thoughts on the matter, but at the end of the day that is really the core of the problem. Suffice to say, this moderation team is doing more to hurt the community than to develop it.

There is a wall post exchange going on between two members over donkey kong scores. Quite a bit of insults are being thrown back and forth, Where is the moderation team to stop such a clearly toxic exchange from being carried out right on the main page for everyone to see? Seemingly no where to be found.

Yet this same wall post seems to be a battleground no different than a forum post exchange that had been going on for years. That forum thread after years of back and forth finally found the participants banned. Is that what it takes for the moderators to finally take action? Years of toxicity? How about doing something productive to the purpose of the site and looking into the video I posted and fixing the scoreboard, even if only by a little bit?

It should not take much to figure out that someone who is viewing the site casually, or perhaps for the very first time, is not going to react very favorably to this display. Is this site trying to grow? Is this site trying to run itself back into the ground?

I agree with many of your points Glen. Over policing and permanent bans will lead to a very sterile site with little to no "community".

I am greatly saddened at the recent permanent banishments. I feel like the climate is now such that you shouldn't even mention their names, lest you draw attention to yourself.

I am guessing that you will be banned soon, so if that happens: "I feel sorry for ya, kid"

While on the subject of over-moderation, take a look at one of the most popular sites ever, up until around 2012: CAGDC

    http://www.classicarcadegaming.com/forums/index.php

It is a ghost town. Overmoderated, overprotected. Alpiger will personally phone every potential member and interview them before allowing them on his site. Sure, his site his rules. Result? Ghost town.

Again, close the forums and this wall page. Until Twin Galaxies can properly maintain the leaderboard. The legacy of Twin Galaxies is dying. Or some say it is already dead. Without the scoreboard to be honest IMO who cares. Once that is working correctly and efficiently. Then worry about moderation of community communication/ social etc. Or how to fund this website properly/ prof

When is the next State of the Galaxies??

That's understandable. I mean if I were you I would want the person that points out your neverending lies about being involved with the previous ownership of TG gone too.
  6. datagod's Avatar

For the record, Freeko Bill Walter was NEVER a partial owner of Twin Galaxies. Richie Knucklez confirmed that multiple times. Bill Walter has been a positive force around here lately, so I will give credit where it is due.

  7. Ninglendo's Avatar

Nor was he a ref or web developer for the previous TG. He had no involvement other than sleeping in the previous owner's arcade.

Glen, you seem to get angrier and angrier the more you post. When I joined, you loved video games and adjudicating, now you are just angry. It really sucks, I miss the fun you.

I really think TG needs to refocus their efforts on the leaderboards. The last year or so of additions/changes really weren't needed, while things like rules/disputes/adding newly released games should be the focus. For Christ sake, if us members don't add things to the leaderboards, it doesn't get added. It's as if the leaderboards are the least focused thing to change.

I wish they would stop banning members. We are adults, at times very childish and flat out dickheads, but let them hash it out. Remove their forum privileges, but let them submit at least and they can handle it in their PMs or somewhere else.At this point, any active forum on TG is a good thing. Draws attention at least. I'd like to see the active number of 17 and under people on here. If it's over 3, I'd be shocked.

I think people should get 10 free submissions as well instead of one. Let them have a chance to make a mistake...which they will because almost everybody does on their first submission. Has that "you must enter your .3s time as .300s" error.been fixed yet or does that have to keep being a learning experience for first timers? This gives them a chance to become familiar with submitting, see if they like it or not. I'd also change the home page to the adjudication page. As soon as you log in, Bam! Newest batch of submissions staring you in the face. Gets the gaming blood pumping for action seeing other people posting, and it might even get a few quick adjudication votes as well since you already there. You know, display your main selling point up front and not in the shadows.

Happy Glen, come back to us!!

Who got Perma banned? When did that happen? Is there somewhere you can see who has been banned?

  10. datagod's Avatar

    RTM, Rosa and Stilphen.

  11. thegamer1185's Avatar

What?! They got permanently banned? All of them? I feel like we should petition to get them all back. I know people didn't like RTM for some reason ( I do, it's because people can't seem to just live in this TG and move on from that old TG stuff) but the guy was somewhat active. William was one of the most active members. Bring them all back.

Petitions won't work since RTM threatened to sue because people were questioning scores of his so TG bent the knee. The only way Rosa will be able to come back is if RTM stops threatening to sue people. It's kinda a funny pattern with the old guard constantly threatening to sue when questions are raised about their scores.
  13. thegamer1185's Avatar

So don't let RTM back without signing an agreement not to sue. Really stupid that is even needing to be said, but it solves the issue. I don't think anybody said let him back anyway, we just want Sir William Rosa

If it would make Glen any happier I'd be prepared to put a good word in for him to Mark Alpigger to join that forum. I wouldn't hold my breath for a prompt reply because regardless of emails, snail mail Pigeon mail, fax or Morse code messages it takes him about 2 years to respond. :)
